Media Release: Sunday Sept 6, 2026

This afternoon, approximately 3:30pm, the Royston Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at a local commercial housing development. The alarm was determined by fire personnel to be a false alarm.

Upon returning to service, a motor vehicle collision was reported near Ace Hardware, involving a motorcyclist.

Upon arrival it was determined that a victim of the accident had been injured. Royston Fire personnel assisted Franklin County EMS with patient care and the one victim reported was transported to a local emergency room.

No other injuries or damage was reported as a result of either incident.

Today has been a busy day for RFD!

Tonight fire personnel met with Bold Spring Fire Rescue for hands on training inside of an acquired residential property.

Opportunities like these are highly desirable because it’s as close to the real world as we can get. On real roofs, inside of real walls, searching real bedrooms, etc.

Training this evening focused on two specific areas. Vertical (residential) ventilation. The where, why, and when of why we cut holes in roofs of homes when they are on fire.

And interior search, with downed firemen rescue techniques. Breaching walls, and victim drags. These are bread and butter skills that every fireman must understand and be confident in.

Training opportunities like these are so valuable by way of sharing experiences and knowledge with other firemen and outside fire districts. Making each other better and improving our ability to serve.

We would like to thank Bold Springs Fire Department for the invitation to attend, teach, learn, and fellowship. We look forward to another opportunity soon!

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS RESPONSE | ROYSTON, GA

Today, the City of Royston Fire Department responded to a reported hazardous materials incident at Pharma Tech Industries in Royston.

Upon arrival, firefighters met with facility representatives and identified one employee who had experienced an exposure related to the incident. The individual was evaluated and was released shortly thereafter.

After gathering information from company officials and completing an initial assessment, Royston Fire personnel made entry into the facility to investigate the source of the incident.

Crews were able to safely remove the immediate hazard and relocate the involved chemicals to an appropriate area where they could complete the off-gassing process. Firefighters then ventilated the affected portions of the facility and continued monitoring conditions until the atmosphere was determined to be safe.

The incident was brought under control and crews cleared the scene with no additional injuries to employees or fire personnel.

Incidents such as this highlight the importance of hazardous materials training, proper protective equipment, and close coordination between emergency responders and local industry.

We appreciate the cooperation of Pharma Tech Industries personnel, and the assistance of the Hart County Fire Department throughout today’s response.

Media release: Friday August 28, 2026

This morning at approximately 11:48am the Royston Fire Department responded to a mutual aid call with Franklin Springs Fire Department, to reports of trash fire that had gotten out of control. Highway 29 just past McDonald’s.

Upon arrival fire personnel were able to extinguish the fire and prevent any further damage.

No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

Media Release: Sat Aug 22, 2026

This evening at approximately 7:06pm the Royston Fire Department was dispatched to a residential fire alarm. Bowers Street, Royston GA.

While in route, units were advised that the residence was full of smoke, per the caller. Chief Lorentson arrived on scene first, and advised incoming units that no smoke was visible from the exterior.

Rescue 1 and Engine 2 arrived on scene moments later. It was quickly determined that a faulty part inside the homeowners AC unit was creating smoke and being pushed throughout the structure.

A PPV or positive pressure ventilation fan system was used to remove smoke from the home. The scene was cleaned, without further damage.

No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

When Chief Jon Lorentson took over Royston Fire Rescue, one of his goals was to expand training opportunities—not only for our members, but also for the fire departments throughout our surrounding communities.

Royston Fire Rescue has taken the first steps toward making that vision a reality. Recently, FF Jacob Fannin visited Franklin Springs Fire Department, Carnesville Fire Dept, and Line Fire Dept to share his knowledge and provide a common-sense approach to elevator operations on the fire ground.

We would like to sincerely thank each of these departments for welcoming FF Fannin and allowing Royston Fire Rescue the opportunity to train with your members.

Our goal is simple: share knowledge, improve skills, and make every firefighter safer on the fire ground.

If your department is located in the surrounding counties and would like Royston Fire Rescue to come provide training or share knowledge on a specific topic, please reach out to us. We would be glad to work with you and help provide practical, common-sense training that firefighters can use when it matters most.

This evening members of the Royston Fire Department gathered together to train on techniques of; Rapid Intervention, Self Rescue, and moving of a downed fireman.

Utilizing props made in house by fire personnel, this allows for staff to become more efficient and familiar with maneuvering through confined spaces. While also becoming more comfortable in their gear, in a compromised environment.

This evenings training event also falls on National Volunteer Firefighters Recognition Day. First established by President Reagan in 1984. In order to recognize these men and women who volunteer their time, money, blood, sweat, and tears for the good of their community.

The Royston Fire Department is always working on new ways to improve our quality of service. Through training and education we strive to make Royston a better place to live and work.

Media Release: Monday August 10, 2026

This afternoon at approximately 3:30pm the Royston Fire Department responded, with Franklin Springs Fire, to Emanuel University Student Housing. To reports of a fire alarm which was upgraded to smoke inside of the structure.

Upon arrival Royston fire personnel met with command who advised one second floor hallway was filled with smoke. Due to an overloaded dryer/washer.

The equipment was disconnected and the hazard was immediately removed. At that time smoke was removed from the building with the use of a PPV or position pressure ventilation fan system.

No further damage was noted or reported as a result of this incident. And no students, staff, or fire personnel were injured.

Shortly thereafter, occupants were allowed to enter the structure which was declared safe by Franklin Springs Fire Department Command.

Yesterday the Royston Fire Department was so happy to participate in the Color Run, held at our own wellness park!

Fire personnel helped the participants out by spraying them down, keeping them cool, and making sure their colors didn’t fade!

An estimated 200 runners attended the event!

Media Release: Thursday July 30, 2026

This evening, just past 8pm, the Royston Fire Department responded to reports of a vehicle fire inside our city limit.

Units arrived on scene within minutes, finding a small fire inside the engine compartment of a passenger vehicle.

The fire was quickly extinguished without injury or any further damage to the vehicle, or other property.

No personal injury was reported as a result of this incident.
