Members of the Royse City Police Department joined fellow first responders, local officials, and community members at the Rockwall County Courthouse today for a ceremony commemorating the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

We remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the first responders who courageously answered the call, and those who have suffered or lost their lives in the years since due to 9/11-related illnesses.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to honor their courage, their sacrifice, and the lives forever changed by that day.

We will never forget.

Happy Labor Day, everyone!

A huge thank you to our Volunteers in Policing (VIPs) who came in on their day off to help us prepare for our upcoming Citizens Police Academy, which starts next week.

We truly appreciate their time, dedication, and willingness to help. We could not do what we do without these amazing volunteers!

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT – OCTOBER 6

National Night Out is just over a month away, and we are still looking for neighborhoods that would like to participate!

National Night Out is a great opportunity to get outside, meet your neighbors, and spend some time with members of the Royse City Police Department, Royse City Fire Department, EMS, and Animal Control.

If your neighborhood is interested in hosting a National Night Out event on Tuesday, October 6, from 6:00–8:00 PM, we would love to hear from you.

The semi has been removed from the roadway and eastbound and westbound are open.

Major accident:

Yesterday evening there was an accident on I30 at the 79 mile marker involving an overturned 18 wheeler. Crews have been working all night to upright the 18 wheeler as well as repairing a damaged guard rail, but the interstate is still closed eastbound and westbound. All traffic is being diverted to take the 79 exit east and west.

Both lanes westbound and eastbound are closed. Traffic is being diverted to the 79 exits west and east.

Major Accident:

There is an overturned semi westbound at the I30 79 mile marker. Both westbound lanes are closed. Due to the accident, the left lane eastbound is also closed.  Expect significant delays for several hours.

Royse City Police Department K9 Bali has received a donation of body armor

Royse City PD, TX - K9 Bali a has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Bali’s vest was sponsored by Brittany Sims and Todd Prather of Greenville, TX and embroidered with the sentiment “In memory of K9 Officer Phil Prather.”

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. This potentially lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom fitted, and National Institute of Justice (NIJ) certified. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 6,631 vests valued at $6.9 million to K9s in all 50 states, made possible by both private and corporate donations.

The program is open to U.S. dogs at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount, while a single donation of $1,050 will sponsor one vest. Each vest has a value of $1800.00, weighs an average of 4-5 lbs., and comes with a five-year warranty. For more information or to learn about volunteer opportunities, please call (508) 824-6978.
