U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tully Lake

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tully Lake Welcome to the official US Army Corps of Engineers Tully Lake page These dams work in conjunction with other Corps dams to protect the Connecticut River.

The Corps built Tully Dam in 1949 to help Birch Hill Dam reduce flood damages on the Millers River in Athol and Orange. In addition to flood damage reduction, the property is managed to provide quality public outdoor recreation to present and future generations. Tully Lake is located in north central Massachusetts, about 1.5 hours west of Boston. The day use areas are open from sunrise to sunset.

The campground is open from May to October. Tully Lake is a 1300-acre flood damage reduction project completed in 1949. The reservoir area is rich with natural beauty and outdoor recreation. A tents-only campground with 35 sites lies on the north side of the 200-acre lake. Adjacent to the dam, the Recreation Area offers picnic sites and a boat ramp with a 10-HP maximum. Twenty-three miles of hiking trails extend around the lake, Long Pond, and off-site to nearby waterfalls and scenic vistas. The lake is ideal for canoes and kayaks, which can explore the lake, the Tully River and Long Pond. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District, working in cooperation with agencies from the states of CT, MA, NH and VT, provides quality outdoor recreational opportunities at 31 Corps-operated flood risk management reservoirs within these states. The lands and waters of these civil works water resource projects are managed to conserve the natural resources as well as for the primary authorized purpose of flood risk management. The Corps of Engineers was founded on June 16, 1775. Disclaimer

Just a heads up that tomorrow 6/28/24, a team of Rangers will be performing tree work along a section of the Tully Lake trail along Doane Hill Road in between the Tully Campground and Tully Recreation Area. Please be mindful and use extra caution in this area if you’re hiking the trail.
