September 11, 2001 — Never Forget 🇺🇸

Today, Royal Oak Professional Firefighters Local 431 pauses to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the first responders who answered the call that morning.

We especially remember the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice, along with the police officers, EMS personnel, and countless others who ran toward danger to help people they had never met.

Twenty-five years later, their courage, sacrifice, and service continue to inspire firefighters across our country.

We also remember the many first responders who have lost their lives in the years since from illnesses related to their work at Ground Zero.

We will never forget.

Royal Oak Firefighters are selling Breast Cancer Awareness shirts again! For the past 9 years, we have been selling shirts with 100% of the proceeds going to local, Royal Oak charities that help families affected by cancer. This year, all proceeds will be going to Gilda's Club in Royal Oak.

On behalf of the members of the Royal Oak Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 431, we would like to sincerely thank the residents of Royal Oak for participating in yesterday’s election and for your continued support of public safety.

We understand that every vote represents thoughtful consideration, and we recognize that many families are facing difficult financial decisions. The trust and confidence you place in your Police and Fire Departments is something we will never take for granted.

Whether you called 911 yesterday, last year, or years from now, our commitment remains the same. When you need us, most often on one of the worst days of your life, we will be there. That responsibility is one we carry with great pride and humility.

Your support helps ensure that our firefighters, paramedics, and police officers have the training, equipment, and resources needed to continue serving our community with the professionalism and compassion you deserve.

Tuesday, August 4th is Election Day.

The members of the Royal Oak Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 431 respectfully ask you to consider supporting the Public Safety Millage.

Every day, Royal Oak firefighters, paramedics, and police officers are proud to serve the residents, businesses, and visitors of our community. Whether responding to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, hazardous materials incidents, or helping someone through one of the most difficult moments of their life, it is a privilege to answer the call.

We understand that many families are carefully managing their household budgets, and we do not make this request lightly. We simply ask that you consider the value public safety provides to our community every day.

This millage helps support the firefighters, paramedics, police officers, training, protective equipment, emergency vehicles, and technology needed to continue providing the high level of service that Royal Oak residents have come to expect.

Whatever your decision, thank you for the trust you place in us every day. It is an honor to serve this community, and we are grateful for your continued support.

Smoke from Canadian wildfires has spread all across Metro Detroit. If you find yourself outside today in a light generalized haze or smell a vague odor of smoke, this is most likely the cause.

Canadian wildfire smoke is drifting into Michigan, prompting state officials to issue a statewide air quality alert through at least Thursday and possibly longer.

Here’s an important safety tip from professional firefighters with decades of field experience:

If you are without power and using a generator, ensure that it is set up OUTSIDE and in a WELL-VENTILATED area.

Gasoline and natural gas generators generate carbon monoxide. While pure CO is odorless, exhaust from generators is not. If you smell exhaust in your home, adjust your generator location to avoid CO entering your family’s living space.

Do not run portable gasoline generators in your garage or basement. Do not run a gasoline generator near an open garage door or an open pedestrian door or window. Point the exhaust pipe downwind and away from your home.

If you are running a fixed-location natural gas generator, keep doors and windows near the unit closed.
