Bike Bus!!!!
We are going to try a new event this month that we hope to repeat in October, November (weather pending), April, May, and June. It is a bike bus event: Oakland Bikes to School!

What is a bike bus? A bike bus is a group of kids from the same school who ride bicycles together along a set route and schedule, much like a traditional public school bus. We will begin at Hudson Park located at 617 Hudson Ave, and we will bike along Hudson Ave across Campbell and eventually end at Oakland Elementary.
There are two ways to ride: 1) Starting with us at Hudson Park or 2) Joining the route as we ride by.

We hope to make this a fun and SAFE event for our school and community. In order to do that, we are asking for parent volunteers that would ride with the kids and parent volunteers who could stand at the residential intersections to help kids who need to enter the route. If you are a parent planning on riding with your child, which is encouraged, consider being an official volunteer. We will also have the help of the Royal Oak Police helping the kids cross at Campbell and a few officers may even ride with the kids for fun!

Please lookout for two signups:
1) a parent volunteer signup and
2) a signup stating that your child will be riding so we can check them in.

And one more thing! Check out this video! This is our inspiration of what a bike bus can become. I know we are small, but we are mighty and I know we can show up and turn out for this event!

I hope everyone had a great curriculum night! Our teachers are the absolute best, and we know this year is going to be a great one! In case you missed it in your inbox, the room parent sign-up genius is live! We would love to see you volunteer in one of our classrooms. Room parents help organize the Halloween and Valentine parties as well as support the teacher through classroom volunteer opportunities and teacher appreciation week. Just a reminder you need to be a PTA member to be a room parent. We can't wait to see you at Oakland!

We love how many families are involved at Oakland and we want to give as many people as possible to be involved, so we ask only one sign-up per family per class. Please note that an active Oakland Elementary PTA membership is required to volunteer, as it is necessary for liability insurance purposes...

Happy first day! Just a reminder that we would love for you to be a part of the Oakland PTA. Every PTA Member Makes a Difference!

The PTA is a vital part of Oakland Elementary! The strength of our PTA - and the number of opportunities we’re able to provide our students - is directly connected to the involvement and support of our families.

Want to be more involved at Oakland? A great first step is to attend one of our monthly PTA meetings!

The Oakland PTA meets the second Monday of every month at 7 PM in the Media Center. Free childcare is provided for children in kindergarten and older, so you can join us without having to worry about childcare!

Beyond attending our meetings, you can also volunteer at an event, or grab a friend and co-chair an event together! We usually have 2–3 chairs per event so it’s manageable, fun, and definitely a team effort.

And don’t forget the PERKS! 🎉 PTA members get to participate in giveaways and also get early access to important volunteer opportunities (like the Marco’s Pizza giveaway and room parent sign up genius.)

Even if you can’t volunteer or attend our monthly meetings, your $10 PTA membership still makes a BIG difference! Your membership helps fund events, activities, and educational experiences all throughout the school year!
