You can tell a lot about the candidates based on the groups that endorse them.

Desperate times seem to be calling for desperate measures - looks like an attempt to deflect attention to the opponents. . Scheneck, Masi and Danielson do not know who took the campaign signs (theirs or ours). Read until the end of the article - really a non-issue.

Roxbury police look into theft of school board candidate signs

School Boards and District Administrations that can't work together are bad for any community - you need to look no further than Randolph or Mt. Olive. Vote for candidates that can accept and express different views without bringing myopic agendas to the table. Vote for candidates that truly understand the roles and responsibilities of a school board member. Vote for candidates that uphold the Code of Ethics they are bound by, understanding that certain topics should not and cannot be publicly discussed (including posting private messages, screen shots and HIB report details on social media). Vote for the candidates you would feel comfortable going to with a question or concern, who will not resort to bullying or name-calling when presented with a different opinion.
Vote Scheneck, Masi and Danielson on Nov. 8th (if you haven't voted already).

Important answers to get from your candidates:
1) Are you complying with the strict rules set by the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission when it comes to reporting donations?

2) Are you, or have you ever received any contributions from any political, social or religious groups? If so, from who?

3) Are you aware of any 'conflicts' you may have (family members working in any capacity within the district or collective bargaining unit) that would cause you to recuse yourself from voting on some district agenda items?

4) What committees would you be interested in working on if you are elected to the school board and why?

5) Have you, or have you ever, taken the in-person NJSBA training aimed at educating prospective board members on the Code of Ethics and roles and responsibilities of the Board, (most recently offered in September, 2022)?

In response to a post made on another community page asking why someone without children or grandchildren would or should be on the Board of Ed:
This topic was actually discussed at Candidates Night, by both Carol and Dan. Carol explained that she has always had an interest in the Roxbury school district, as she and 5 of her family members all attended K-12 here, and that she has an undergraduate degree in math education. Additionally, as Dan pointed out, someone who has no children in the district, can be objective; and make decisions in the best interests of ALL the children in the district. She is also a stakeholder, as a taxpayer she has every right to be on the board to make certain tax dollars are well spent.

A few words on "Rankings and Ratings {R/R}".... R/R are developed by third party groups to serve their own interests; they vary by publisher and are hard to compare because of differences in their calculations. Test scores and demographic data used may be subject to a time lag (sometimes as much as 4-10 years - read the fine print) and may or may not be of use, depending on the district's needs, demographics and focus.

While it is desirable to have a higher R/R, these scores do not reflect what is being accomplished in our schools - there are no categories or points given for SDF lab programs, dual-credit college classes, and Education, PE and Aviation career paths. Our excellent Performing Arts department, which includes music, dance, and theater programs, also are not weighted into these R/R. Special Education students who are offered the great opportunity to extended years after they earn their diploma affect the graduation rate, as well. There are many great things happening in our schools, which in turn make it a great place to live and learn, even though it may not be reflected in an R/R.

So, yes, being in the top percentage or ranked higher is one determination of a school districts success, and this board is aware of the R/R. We are also aware that data can be manipulated and looked at in various ways - we look at what is best for EVERY student in the district and the community.
