πŸ“šβ˜€οΈ While students are enjoying a well-deserved summer break, learning continues across Person County Schools!

Recently, teachers participated in Reading Research to Classroom Practice professional development, led by instructional coach Tonya Peterson, where they explored current research and evidence-based instructional strategies to strengthen reading, vocabulary, and comprehension instruction. Participants spent time learning, collaborating, and practicing strategies they can bring directly into their classrooms next school year.

At PCS, teachers, staff, and administrators are always looking for ways to grow professionally because we know that when educators grow, students benefit. Summer is a time for recharging, but it's also a time for learning, planning, and preparing for another successful school year.

Thank you to our educators for their dedication to continuous improvement and student success! 🍎✨

We’re proud to see the collaborative work between Person County Schools and the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Education recognized through a partnership focused on strengthening kindergarten readiness for children and families in our community.

Through the Carolina READERS Lab, led by UNC researcher Annemarie Hindman, and in partnership with Joseph Warren, Executive Director of Elementary Education, School Improvement, and Federal Programs for Person County Schools, the Transition to Kindergarten Toolkit was created to provide families with engaging, accessible resources to help children feel confident and prepared as they begin school.

The toolkit includes literacy activities, story resources, family guidance, and practical tools designed to support early learning both at home and in the classroom. This work reflects a shared commitment to ensuring every child has a strong start and highlights the impact meaningful school-university partnerships can have for students and families across Person County.

We are grateful for the leadership, vision, and dedication behind this initiative and proud to see Person County Schools represented in this important work supporting our youngest learners.
