Explorer teams from across Texas came out to compete and show off their hard work and dedication. It was an honor to host such an incredible event and witness these young adults shine.

The Rowlett Fire Department is proud to maintain a longstanding commitment to the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation — honoring the families of our fallen Brothers and Sisters.

Since 2016, Captain Brent Sandlin has represented our department as a Family Es**rt, walking alongside families during one of the most meaningful weekends of the year.

"I was honored to serve as a Family Es**rt for the family of Firefighter Corby McKenzie at this year's National Fallen Firefighter Memorial. Firefighter McKenzie lost his courageous battle with cancer in March of 2024 — later determined to be occupational cancer and deemed a Line of Duty Death. The National Fallen Firefighter Memorial helps families cope with the loss of their loved one and gives them comfort knowing their Hero will never be forgotten."

As we approach Memorial Day, we invite our community to join us in honoring all who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t finish off the week by recognizing our amazing dispatchers during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

Our dispatchers are the calm voice on the other end of the line when someone is having one of the worst days of their life. They’re gathering critical information, giving instructions, and making sure our crews have what they need before we ever get on scene.

What they do isn’t easy. It takes patience, focus, and the ability to stay composed when everything around them is anything but. They are a critical part of every call we run, and we simply couldn’t do this job without them.

To our Rowlett dispatchers, thank you for everything you do for our department and for our community. We appreciate you more than you know.
