Nogales Noble Athlete of the Year: Carlos Cruz

Rowland Unified celebrates Nogales High School Class of 2026 Grad Carlos Cruz, who was named Noble Athlete of the Year in recognition of his dedication, leadership and success as a student-athlete. Carlos will attend Cal Poly Pomona in the fall, where he plans to play baseball and study business administration. His achievements reflect not only personal excellence, but also the strength of the coaches, teammates and family members who supported him along the way. We can’t wait to see what’s next!

From Rowland Heights to the Ivy League: Yihan “Angela” Wang Earns a Full-Ride to Cornell

The John A. Rowland High School Senior is headed to Cornell University to study Global and Public Health Sciences

When the confetti appeared on her screen, Angela Wang did not even need to read the rest of the letter. She was sitting with her father on Ivy Day, opening decisions that represented months of essays, deadlines and anxious waiting. Cornell University had once felt out of reach — the kind of school she admired from a distance while telling herself to be realistic. Then the screen filled with celebration, and Wang said she found herself repeating the same sentence again and again: she had gotten in!

For Wang, the moment was bigger than one admission decision. It was the culmination of years of work, and of a family journey that began when she emigrated from China in elementary school. Cornell University, where she will enroll this fall on a full-ride financial aid package, now stands as the clearest marker yet of what that effort has made possible.
