⚠️ Flooding & Road Closure Update⚠️

With continued rainfall, several low-lying roads in our area have had water over the roadway. Crews are out marking these areas with cones now, and have already noted many areas are rapidly receding. We expect all roads to be open before dark with exception of the low water crossing at Rocky Creek Rd and Reuther Rd.

Please use caution and allow extra travel time.

Thank you to our Road & Bridge crews and first responders who are working to keep our community safe.

Update: 6/11/26 at 5:41pm - The road and bridge have been reopened.

Kniep Road is closed at the Rocky Creek Bridge (the iron bridge near Round Top) due to damage from a vehicle accident. The bridge and guard railing sustained damage and will remain closed until further notice. Please use an alternate route and avoid the area if possible.

UPDATE: The riders will come down Post Oak to Race Track Rd to 77.

The MS 150 is slated for this weekend, April 25-26. Riders from Houston will come through the east side of the County by Fayetteville to the Fairgrounds in La Grange. Riders from Austin will come into the county on the west, coming through Wi******er. They will also stop at the fairgrounds. The route from Houston has a change this year - because of the bridge work on FM 2145, riders will take Post Oak Rd. at FM 2981 and merge on to HWY 77. Riders from Austin will also merge onto 77 from FM 153 near the same point. Traffic will be heavy in the area, so try to use alternate routes.

When the riders leave Sunday morning they will go back up 77 to Post Oak Rd and then follow the normal route up Waldeck and eventually out of the county.

Residents of Post Oak Rd., be prepared for traffic. Everyone remember to share the road.

Here’s what we’ve been up to lately:

The warm weather has allowed us to get a jump on roadwork for 2026. We recently completed chip sealing on Klaus and Goebel Roads and have started work on a portion of Baron Road in the Rutersville area.

In early March, our team attended an excavation and pipeline safety training held in Giddings.

We are currently working on Skalitsky Road and are very thankful to the landowners there for allowing us to use their pond water for the roadwork.

Last week at Commissioners Court, I led a discussion on a proposed resolution to oppose data centers in Fayette County, raising concerns about the potential impacts these large facilities could have on our local resources and the lack of authority the county has to regulate such.

This topic will be discussed again at the next Commissioners Court meeting on Thursday, February 26, 2026, and I encourage anyone who also has concerns about data centers to attend and share your thoughts. You can read more in the Fayette County Record - link in the comment section.

I’ve spent the last couple days in continuing education courses with fellow county leaders from across the state. Learning, collaborating, and gaining insight on issues facing other county leaders.
I’m thankful for the opportunity to learn and better serve our County.
