On Monday, Round Rock firefighters responded to a call about a cat stuck on a roof. They rescued it.

Yep, it’s true. They still do that.

👀 If you spotted a Black Hawk over Round Rock today, here’s what was happening!

Members of Texas A&M Task Force 1 were at the Round Rock Public Safety Training Center today for helicopter search and rescue training with the Texas Army National Guard.

The team trains monthly with National Guard aircraft and crews to practice operations like hoisting, search and rescue and medical evacuation. These skills can be called upon during severe weather, wildfires and other major emergencies across Texas.

Texas A&M Task Force 1 is made up largely of specially trained first responders from local fire departments and agencies across the state. When a disaster requires resources beyond what one community can provide, those local responders train and work together to support a statewide response.

Not every calling asks you to run toward what everyone else runs from.

Last week, Firefighters Dillon Hernandez, William Parslow, David Patenaude and James "Trey" Rogers graduated from the Round Rock Fire Department Academy.

Over the past four months as cadets, they have been challenged, pushed and prepared for a career of service. They learned the importance of trust, humility and perseverance. They learned that every shift is a chance to grow, every call matters and every member of the crew depends on one another.

As they begin their careers, we hope they carry those lessons with them. Stay humble. Keep learning. Take care of your crew. Remember why you answered the call, and never lose sight of the people and community you're sworn to protect.

Congratulations to our newest Round Rock firefighters, and to the families who stood beside them every step of the way.
Not for self, but for others.

Answering the call for Texas! 🚨 💪

Through the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS), Round Rock Fire Department has activated and deployed personnel to support the severe weather response in the San Antonio area. Meanwhile, our staffing and emergency response capabilities here in Round Rock remain fully intact.

Please keep our deployed personnel, all state first responders and the communities in the path of flooding and severe weather in your thoughts. The Central Texas area remains under a Flood Watch through tomorrow evening, so be sure to stay weather-aware! If you see water over a roadway, turn around.

The cadets are fire, y’all 🔥👨‍🚒

Last year, 864 people took the entrance exam for a chance to join Round Rock Fire Department. Today, seven cadets are one month away from graduation after nearly six months of firefighter and EMT training. Six of the cadets are part of the City’s fiscal year 2026 investment in Round Rock Fire as the department continues to grow alongside the community it serves.

Over the weekend, the Round Rock Fire Department lost one of our own. Fire Driver Zach French served this community alongside the men and women of RRFD for nearly 19 years, and his loss is being felt throughout our department and the public safety community.

We are grateful for the support shown by neighboring agencies, our fellow employees, hospital staff and the community during this difficult time. Many community members may have noticed neighboring agencies assisting with emergency response coverage or gatherings of our firefighters over the past several days. These acts of support allowed our firefighters the opportunity to be together and support one another, and we are deeply appreciative of everyone who made that possible.

Out of respect for the family, we will not be sharing additional details at this time. We ask that you keep Zach’s family, friends and fellow firefighters in your thoughts and prayers.

Bestie 🤝 family.

The bonds built on the job often turn into lifelong friendships. We're proud to have public safety crews who support one another, serve alongside one another and help make Round Rock a stronger, safer community every day.

Battalion 1 💪

Beautiful Central Texas weather can change quickly this time of year. After a nice break following last night’s rain, additional rounds of showers and storms are possible tonight through the weekend.

Heavy rainfall could lead to isolated flash flooding, especially in low-water crossings and flood-prone areas. As of the writing of this post, a Flood Watch is in effect from 7 p.m. Friday through 7 p.m. Monday.

If you encounter water over the roadway, remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Never drive through flooded streets or barricades.

Stay weather aware, monitor local forecasts and have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts. Sign up now at www.warncentraltexas.org.
