So what is the Upper Brushy Creek Water Control and Improvement District (“WCID”) - and why am I running to be one of its Directors? First - the WCID is a taxing district, located primarily in southern Williamson County. The WCID collects roughly $7 Million in property taxes each year - few us of knew that the WCID exists, much less that we are being taxed by it or why! The WCID is responsible for
the operation and maintenance of flood control structures within the Upper Brushy Creek watershed in the Brazos River Basin; as of today, the WCID is responsible for 23 dams in Williamson County, Texas. Most of the dams are located near and around Round Rock, Leander, Cedar Park and Hutto. These dams serve a vital purpose; to protect our community, its people, and its property. I am running for Director for 4 reasons, Awareness, Cost, Taxes, and Safety (ACTS):
1. Awareness: Historically, the WCID has little – if any – taxpayer input. I believe the WCID will be at a crossroads within the next few years and our tax paying citizens deserve to know where their money is going and why. I will be accessible, involved, and make you aware of the decisions facing the WCID and your tax dollars.
2. Control Costs: I will decrease the costs of operation at the WCID, while remaining vigilant on public safety, maintenance and construction. I believe we can lower the overall expenses of the WCID, such as insurance costs, to make revenues stretch further.
3. Cut Taxes: When was the last time you saw a decrease in your property tax rate? I believe it is time to take a hard look at a rate reduction; historically, property taxes in Williamson County have skyrocketed over the past 20 years, yet the initial WCID tax rate remains the same. I want to cut your taxes, give you back your money, make your government efficient, all the while making double sure the WCID fulfills its mission of protecting lives and property.
4. Safety: We must maintain the dams we have and build the ones we need on a cost-effective basis; we do not want to have the same problems as our neighbors to the south - along Onion Creek - have had. We must have the vision to wisely use tax resources to the betterment of our community. I want Brushy Creek to be safe and beautiful - meaning no high transmission power lines running along the creek as LCRA has proposed. I will fight against the LCRA power line being located near the creek or its parks. Election Day is May 7, 2016. Thanks for your support, "like," and "share!"
