Today, the Village of Round Lake Beach joins communities across the nation in recognizing Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates freedom, resilience, and progress.

As we reflect on this important chapter in our nation’s history, we honor the contributions of Black Americans and reaffirm our commitment to building a welcoming and inclusive community for all. Happy Juneteenth.

The Village of Round Lake Beach will temporarily close approximately 900 feet of Nicole Lane north of Rollins Road beginning Monday, June 22, for approximately two weeks.

The closure is necessary to accommodate construction associated with the Hook Drive Extension project. Due to the scope of the work and anticipated traffic impacts, closing Nicole Lane north of Rollins Road is the safest and most efficient way to complete the project while minimizing delays.

During the closure, motorists are encouraged to use West Sprucewood Lane, Circuit Drive, and Rollins Road as detour routes. Drivers should also expect delays near the ALDI shopping center, the Advocate building, and the 19th Judicial Circuit Courthouse, all of which are accessed from Nicole Lane.

Construction in the area includes widening Nicole Lane to add left-turn lanes at Rollins Road and widening Nicole Lane at the new Hook Drive intersection. The temporary closure is expected to help expedite completion of these roadway improvements.

Fatal Traffic Crash Under Investigation
Round Lake Beach, IL – The Round Lake Beach Police Department is providing information regarding a fatal traffic crash that occurred on Saturday night near Route 83 and Rollins Road. The crash investigation is being handled by the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.

At approximately 8:44 p.m., a Round Lake Beach police officer located a vehicle at Route 83 and Rollins Road that had crashed into a traffic signal. The driver, a 39-year-old male, sustained critical injuries. Officers immediately began life-saving measures, and the driver was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Preliminary information indicates the vehicle had fled from another Round Lake Beach police officer a few minutes earlier during an attempted traffic stop on Cedar Lake Road, just south of Rollins Road. The officer ended the traffic stop attempt on Rollins Road, approximately five blocks east of Cedar Lake Road, and lost sight of the vehicle. The crash occurred approximately one mile from where the officer ended the traffic stop attempt. MCAT is conducting the crash investigation. The Lake County Coroner’s Office is also involved in the investigation.

Route 83 and Rollins Road was partially closed during the investigation, and Mobile Eye was activated to assist with traffic control at the intersection. A Hyper-Reach notification was disseminated to the community, and the roadway was cleared at approximately 12:30 a.m.

The driver’s identity is not being released at this time. Any release of the driver’s identity will be coordinated with the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

This remains an active investigation, and no additional information is available at this time.
