We are honored to be featured in this Enbridge article highlighting the impact of their Safe Community First Responder Grant Program.

As a volunteer department, grants such as these play a critical role in helping us provide the highest level of service to the citizens of southeastern Person County and northeastern Durham County. Through Enbridge’s support, we were able to equip a donated fire engine with the tools necessary to place it into service, and later purchase battery-powered hydraulic extrication equipment that helps us respond more effectively to emergencies.

We are grateful to Enbridge for investing in first responders and the communities we serve. Their partnership helps ensure that when our neighbors call for help, we have the equipment needed to answer that call.

North Carolina fire departments get equipment boost from Enbridge Gas’ Safe Community grants

Been the story of the year. Drought and high fire danger. New drought map is as expected with very little rain over the past several weeks we have made it to the worst level of drought. Be safe with any outside work including mowing grass and be careful where you part your car if there are tall weeds nearby. Postpone burning if at all possible.

If you are in the area of the landfill be cautious. There is a water shuttle operation going on at this time for a fire at the landfill. we have a water point set up at the drag strip.

FYI. Camp Butner is burning 200 plus acres if you see smoke in the area of the county line.

April was a busy month for our firefighters with 47 calls for service and 6 of those were in Durham County.

Grass/woods fire - 4
Fire - other - 10
Hazmat - 1
Mutual Aid - 6

Not only the 47 calls for service but also we held our bi-annual fundraiser and sold out!

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Moriah Energy Center for their support of the Moriah Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department. We were presented with a $25,000 donation.

Strong partnerships between local industry and emergency services play an important role in keeping our community safe. We are grateful for their willingness to work alongside us, their commitment to safety, and their recognition of the vital role first responders serve every day.

Finally there is green on the weather map but just enough to tease everyone. It may rain this weekend but fire danger will remain high as less than 1/4 inch of rain is forecast. It will help some gardens and farmers with early crops a bit but remember the burn ban will still be in place.

We've upped the rain chances for Saturday as the high-res models are consistently showing good coverage of showers and storms in the afternoon and evening.

As of today Most of Moriah’s fire district is in Extreme drought conditions. Be careful doing anything outside that could cause a spark. even mowing your lawn or frilling out.
