🇺🇸 Remembering September 11, 2001, 25 Years Later 🇺🇸

The Town of Rotterdam paused to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the courage and sacrifice of the first responders, military members, and countless others who answered the call.

As a living memorial, two trees have been planted to represent the Twin Towers, as a lasting symbol of the lives that were taken, the strength of our nation, and the importance of never forgetting.

May these trees grow for generations as a reminder of those we lost and the spirit of unity and resilience that followed.

25 years later, we remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸🕊️

🇺🇸Very special thank you goes out to our highway superintendent Robert Denny for assistance on the donation of the two trees and our highway department along with our water and sewer and parks department employees who helped plant the trees 🌳

Town of Rotterdam to Hold 25th Anniversary September 11 Remembrance Ceremony and Tree Planting

September 8, 2026

The Town of Rotterdam will host a solemn remembrance ceremony on the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, honoring the lives lost, the heroes who responded, and the families and communities forever changed.
The ceremony will take place on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Rotterdam Town Hall, and will include a special tree-planting dedication as a living memorial to honor the past and symbolize hope and resilience for future generations.
“Twenty-five years later, we still feel the weight of that day, and we still carry the stories of the nearly 3,000 lives lost,” said Town Supervisor John Polimeni. “This ceremony is an opportunity for our community to come together; to mourn, to remember, and to reaffirm our commitment to unity and compassion in the face of tragedy.”
Supervisor Polimeni emphasized the significance of the living memorial, “By planting this tree, we honor the past with a memorial that continues to grow. As its roots deepen and its branches spread, it will stand as a reminder to all who visit Town Hall that out of unimaginable loss, we can nurture strength, community, and hope.”
“September 11 changed our nation, but it also revealed the best of who we are; our courage, our generosity, and our willingness to stand together,” Supervisor Polimeni added. “On this 25th anniversary, Rotterdam stands with all who continue to grieve, all who continue to serve, and all who work every day to build a more peaceful and just world.”
The ceremony will include remarks, a moment of silence, and the official dedication of the memorial tree. Residents, community organizations, veterans, first responders, and families are invited and encouraged to attend. The ceremony is open to the public.
