Our condolences to his family, the MCSO, Cranesville Fire Department, and Amsterdam Fire Department. Thank you for your service, Rob.

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of 911 Dispatcher Rob Shang.

Rob dedicated 27 years to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, serving our community with professionalism, compassion, and a steady voice when it mattered most. Prior to rejoining us full time, Rob served with the Amsterdam Fire Department, where he retired a few years ago, and continued his service as a current member of the Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as Second Assistant Chief.

If you ever heard Rob on the radio, you knew exactly who you were talking to, calm, reliable, and always there when you needed him.
Beyond the headset, Rob was a friend to many. He was known for his smile, his sense of humor, and the way he treated everyone like family.

Rob leaves behind his parents Deborah and Bob, wife, Nicole, a paramedic with our EMS Division, their daughter Alena, his children Ashlee and Thomas, and his brother Mike, who serves as a Sergeant in our Investigations Division.

Our thoughts are with his entire family, his friends, and all who had the privilege to work alongside him.

Rest easy, Rob. We’ve got it from here.

🚫🔥 BURN BAN NOTICE 🔥🚫

The Pattersonville Volunteer Fire Department would like to remind residents that the annual New York State burn ban is in effect from March 16 through May 14.

🚫 No open burning is allowed during this time. This includes burning of brush, leaves, and debris.

This seasonal ban helps prevent wildfires during the spring when dry conditions and wind can cause fires to spread quickly.

✅ Allowed:
• Small cooking fires
• Charcoal grills
• Gas grills
• Small campfires (3 feet or less in height and diameter)

❗Please help keep our community safe by following the burn ban and reporting any illegal burning.

If you see an unattended or spreading fire, please call 911 immediately.

Thank you for helping protect our community.

Spring is nearly here, and so is the annual burn ban. As the snow melts and temperatures rise, New York State is at an increased risk of wildfires in the spring. In effect from March 16 through May 14, the annual burn ban prohibits residents from burning vegetation and brush with few exceptions.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Karen Urys.
Karen dedicated many faithful years of service to the Pattersonville Fire Department, following her earlier service with the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Glenville Hill Fire Department. She could always be counted on to volunteer at any department event and especially enjoyed greeting and assisting riders during the Cycle the Erie Canal Ride.
Karen proudly supported and served the department alongside her late husband, Chief Glenn Urys Sr., and her late son, Assistant Chief Glenn Urys Jr. Her dedication, kindness, and steady presence will be deeply missed.
Our prayers and heartfelt condolences are with her daughter, Amanda, and all who knew and loved Karen as they mourn this loss.

🚨 112 Calls for assistance. 🚨

That means 564 man hours our volunteers spent as time out of their days, away from their loved ones or jobs to aid the members of ours and neighboring communities.

Well done, PVFD volunteers. Thank you for your service!

We wish you all safety, health, and joy in 2026!

🚨Did you know?? We accept volunteers starting at age 16! 🚨

👩🏼‍🚒 Our junior firefighters under supervision experience what it means to volunteer for the fire service- responding to calls, participating in training, and giving back to the community!

This month PVFD voted in and welcomed Niya as a junior firefighter and next generation volunteer!

As we near the holiday, Don’t forget to let your turkey thaw! Whether deep frying or cooking, ensure it’s thawed! (Or just feel free to set some extra plates and invite us- we’re friendly and won’t eat ALL the pie!) ☺️

All week long, we’re honoring the tow operators, law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS clinicians, safety service patrols and roadway workers who put themselves in harm’s way to clear crashes, care for patients and keep traffic moving.

You can help protect them:
➡️ Slow down as you approach flashing lights or a crash scene.
➡️ Move over one lane when you can do so safely.
➡️ If you can’t move over, reduce your speed and give extra space.

During Crash Responder Safety Week (November 17–21, 2025), and every day, we ask our communities to do their part. Changing driver behavior saves lives — for our Priority Ambulance family of companies and for every responder working the roadway.

When you see lights ahead, remember: Someone’s loved one is standing out there. Slow down. Move over.
