---MEETING RESCHEDULED FOR NEXT TUESDAY 23RD---
After 20+ months, 12 acres have been razed, hundreds of trees clear cut, the landscape and character of Coleman Road forever changed and all there is to show for it is one mighty massive wall, substantial run off, and one tiny model home that I tower over. Why? Is there not enough interest in Hillandale (slashed from the $800’s to the $600’s) or has the developer run out of funds?
Whatever the case is, the SAME developer responsible for this hot mess wants to “build” (cough cough *clear cut* acreage) a 20 - home neighborhood (because Hillandale is so successful) within an established neighborhood cul-de-sac located in Northpoint. This project does not adhere to our City Ordinance and its definition of a cul-de-sac. Oh, get this - he promises no “retaining walls” this time – HA! Kind of bums me out! At least he has a sense of humor. But does anyone really believe him? I mean, I wasn't planned either.
Note, this same project was under consideration last year and passed the Planning Commission with flying colors. Your Planning Commission has unfortunately not changed and they are reviewing next Tuesday 23rd at 7pm at City Hall. The hope of the developer is to get it approved through the new City Council since the old council denied it last year. Approval as you know would indefinitely change the rules for developers and cul-de-sacs in Roswell.
Humans, I think the bigger question is why do we continually let developers, who deceive the residents and maybe the City, destroy our landscapes and streetscapes? When things don’t go their way or they are too cheap to do it the “right” way they end up destroying more and causing irreversible damage to our existing neighborhoods, character and our environment.
Almost two years and counting…there is zero evidence of progress on the horizon for my development. How many years will “Ridgefield Manor” remain a literal mudhole? How much more land will the City let him destroy?
What can you do? While it will most likely fall on deaf ears, you can email/call the Planning Commission via Jackie Deibel. [email protected] / 770-641-3783
You can also start to engage your City Council about neighborhood and character protection; there are 4 new voices - a few of which think you redshirts are “noise”, so good luck! [email protected]
And if you want to show that red shirts are NOT just noise, show up next Tuesday night at City Hall 7pm wearing red in support of our neighbors to the North.
