Roswell Fire Department responds to commercial structure fire

Yesterday at 8:51 a.m., Roswell Fire was dispatched to a reported structure fire at the Panda Express on Holcomb Bridge Road, located in a five unit commercial building.

Crews arrived to find a cooking fire that had spread into the kitchen exhaust vent and up into the roof. All occupants had safely left the building before our units arrived, and no injuries occurred on scene.

The fire had moved into the space between the roof surface and the structure, so crews cut into the roof to reach the burning material. Fast, coordinated work kept the fire contained to the single end unit, with moderate damage limited to the restaurant.

Safety reminder: Cooking is the leading cause of fires in both homes and commercial kitchens. Keep cooking areas clean, have exhaust hoods and vents inspected and cleaned on a regular schedule, and never leave cooking unattended. Grease buildup in hoods and ducts can carry a small fire into the structure fast.

Ever wonder what is happening on the other side of a live news shot? This is it.

After a water rescue at Vickery Creek yesterday, a news team invited Captain Crowe, Lieutenant DeRose, and Firefighter Ponder to break down how fire crews handle water emergencies. Office chairs, a tripod, dinner sitting on the couch, all in front of Truck 21.

Here is the thing though. What you see on screen is the easy part. The training behind it, swiftwater, rope and high angle rescue, the coordination it takes, that happens long before any camera shows up. It is what Roswell Fire trains for every single day.

So be honest before your next hike. Are you staying on the trail, or stepping off for the photo? Are your kids within arm’s reach near the water, or a few steps too far? Got a life jacket in or around the creek, or just counting on being a strong swimmer?

The trails are worth it. We just want you enjoying them and getting home safe. And if something goes sideways, call 911 right away. That is what we train for.

Your turn, Roswell. What is the one safety habit you never skip near the water? Tell us below.

Roswell Fire crews assisted a child this afternoon along Vickery Creek. While hiking with family on the National Park Service side of the park, the child fell down an embankment and into the creek, then made it out of the water but was unable to climb back up. With the best access by boat from the Roswell side, responders launched an inflatable boat, reached the child, and brought the child back across to the Roswell side, where the family was reunited. No injuries were reported.

A reminder for anyone using the area: the terrain near Vickery Creek can be steep and slick close to the water. Stay on the designated trails and keep a close watch on children near the edges. And if you are in or around the water, wear a life jacket.

🚨Severe Weather Warning Siren Test – today at 12:00 PM (first Wednesday each month), weather permitting.

What to know:
⚠️ Sirens are for people who are outdoors. You may not hear them inside your home, office, or car.
⚠️ In a real event, sirens mean take action now: move to a safe place and get details from reliable sources.
⚠️ Sirens may sound for tornado warnings or life-threatening winds, not for watches or routine thunderstorms.
⚠️ Don’t call 911 to ask about the test—keep lines open for emergencies.

Be ready:
✅ Sign up for ALERTRoswell community notifications.
✅ Keep a NOAA Weather Radio and wireless alerts enabled on your phone.
✅ Review your family’s shelter plan and safe room.

If severe weather is expected, the test may be delayed. Stay weather-aware, Roswell.

Today we recognize Division Chief Brian Wolfe for 30 years of service with the Roswell Fire Department.

Thirty years of sound decisions, high standards, and steady leadership. The kind of career that shapes a department from the inside out, in the policies that hold up under pressure, the officers who came up under his guidance, and the operational discipline that carries through every shift.

Chief Wolfe has spent three decades holding the line on standards and expecting the same from those around him. Roswell is stronger for it.

Thank you, Chief, for 30 years of service.

Thirty years. Today we recognize Captain Bill Logan for three decades of service with the Roswell Fire Department.

Since 1996, Captain Logan has answered the call through countless shifts, calls, and moments that shaped this department and the community it serves. Thirty years takes commitment, consistency, and quiet leadership. The kind that shows up early, stays late, and trains the next generation along the way.

Canton Street was packed last night! Thanks to everyone who came out for Alive in Roswell.

A night like this takes more than music and food vendors. Long before the first guest arrives, the work is already underway. Last night, a K9 team from Forsyth County Sheriff's Office supported the event. Crews from Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency set barricades to protect pedestrian areas from vehicle traffic. Atlanta-Fulton County Emergency Management Agency (AFCEMA) supported resource coordination among responding agencies, and a drone team from Fulton County Emergency Services provided overwatch and situational awareness for command staff on the ground. Roswell Fire, Roswell Police Department, and City departments were staged across the venue, providing on-scene emergency response, law enforcement coverage, and operational support throughout the night.

Most of that work happens out of sight, and that's the point. When the night runs smoothly, it's because dozens of professionals from across the region planned, coordinated, and showed up.

The partners change from event to event, but the commitment doesn't. Thank you to everyone who stood with us last night, and to our community that filled the streets.

Roswell Fire is growing, and the response has been incredible!

Applications to join the department continue to climb, and the past few weeks, our field crews conducted panel interviews with another strong group of candidates. We are in year four of a five-year transition to a full-time fire department, and we are building on a strong foundation. To anyone considering a career in the fire service, take a look at what is happening here.

We are grateful for the leadership and community support helping the Roswell Fire Department achieve its vision of becoming an innovative, world-class public safety organization.

Overnight the Roswell Fire Department responded to an apartment fire in the Lake House at Harbor Landing. Before crews arrived, working smoke alarms activated and alerted the occupants, giving them the time they needed to get out safely.

Arriving units found light smoke coming from a third floor apartment. Crews located a small fire in a bedroom, knocked it down, and checked the rest of the apartment to make sure the fire had not spread. Neighboring apartments were evacuated as a precaution while crews worked.

Three residents and their dog were displaced. The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross. There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Safety reminder: Candles are a common cause of home fires. Always blow them out before leaving a room or going to sleep, and keep them well away from bedding, curtains, paper, and anything else that can catch fire. And test your smoke alarms regularly. They give you and your family the time you need to get out safely.
