Crews will begin felling standing dead trees in the Roslyn Urban Forest today. The unit has multiple blow downs from the winter storm and additional standing dead. Crews will fell and buck the trees. Material will be machine piled and burned this Fall when fire danger subside. There will be occasional closing of trails - please mind the signs - but crews will always maintain an option through the RUF on one of the three trails. Please do not approach machinery or felling crews. Ewok will not be impacted. Roslyn Fire/ Upper Kittitas County Fuels Crew will be conducting the work with assistance from WA DNR and other agencies. The project is funded by the WA DNR. Impacted unit is shown in the map attached in blue and labeled "In Progress - Machine Pile 2026."

We would like to thank all of our firefighters for their dedication.

UPDATE (3:55 p.m.) The following roads will likely remain CLOSED OVERNIGHT in both directions due to worsening conditions:

- I-90 from North Bend to Ellensburg (MP 34-106)
- US 2 from west of the Summit to Coles Corner (MP 55-85)
- SR 410 from Enumclaw to Greenwater (MP 26-43)

--------

UPDATE: I-90 is CLOSED in both directions from North Bend to Ellensburg (MP 34-106) AND WILL REMAIN CLOSED OVERNIGHT. The highway has severe compact snow and ice, making for treacherous driving conditions with more weather on the way. Spring storms bring freeze/thaw/freeze conditions, essentially turning I-90 into an ice rink.

Normally, we would bring resources in from the lowlands to assist, but there is snow in those areas and those resources are not available.

EXPECT CHALLENGING CROSS-STATE TRAVEL TODAY. IF YOU DON'T NEED TO TRAVEL, DON'T.

Conditions change quickly, and I wouldn't rely on this post for the most up-to-date information. Your best bet for real-time conditions is our travel map:
https://wsdot.com/Travel/Real-time/Map/
or mountain pass reports:

And for those wondering: We haven't a chance to talk to Steve today. He's based in Spokane, and they got some snow, so even if he's not plowing, he's probably making snow angels somewhere. Sleeveless, as always.

Make sure all of your connections are clear!!
