Join us for a one-act play, Elizabeth and Mary, Dressmaker and First Lady directed by Jacqueline Parker and written by Thelma Pierce on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 2pm - 3:30pm.

The year is 1865. Elizabeth and Mary, Dressmaker and First Lady details action involving Elizabeth Keckley, dressmaker and confidant to Mary Todd Lincoln, First Lady and wife of Abraham Lincoln, and Flora Freeman, Elizabeth's assistant before the inauguration and after the death of President Lincoln.

This program is generously presented by the Friends of the Roslindale Library.

Join the Art Committee of the Friends of the Roslindale Branch Library for a Gallery Opening Reception for "Spirit of our Elders" on Thursday, September 10, 5pm-7pm. The Roslindale Branch Library is located on 4246 Washington Street. Parking is located on Taft Hill Terrance (free) or on the street. There is no library parking lot.

The Gallery display will be up from September 5 - October 25, 2026. Please note that the gallery is also used for programming so check in advance to make sure you will be able to enter the room to see the Gallery display at the day and time you plan to visit. Thank you!

Book It Around Boston is BACK!

🗺️ Join us and Heartbreak Hill Running Company on Saturday, October 3 for guided routes kicking off and concluding at the Shaw-Roxbury Branch. Participants can walk, run or bike one of five routes to other BPL branches along the way.

🏃🏼‍➡️ The event encourages participants to take part in the program, open to everyone year-round.

🚲Visit a local BPL branch to pick up a Passport, a booklet outlining routes to walk, run, or bike between each of the BPL's 26 locations.

There's a new way to search old newspapers 📰🗞️

BPL and the Institutional Data Initiative at Harvard Law School Library are releasing a new dataset drawn from more than 1.47 million scanned newspaper pages — a window into 135 years of the public record, from 1795 to 1930.

This is the next stage in making these collections even more useful for research and discovery!
