It was a wonderful day filled with culture, tradition, community, and connection. We enjoyed meeting so many families, sharing information about our services and employment opportunities, and celebrating alongside the Karen community.

IMPORTANT MEDICAL ASSISTANCE UPDATE FOR MINNESOTA

The information in this post comes from the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) regarding upcoming federal changes to Medicaid, known as Medical Assistance (MA) in Minnesota.

Bhutanese Home Health Care Services (BHHCS) is only sharing this information to help educate our employees, clients, families and community members. BHHCS does not make Medical Assistance eligibility decisions and cannot determine whether these changes apply to a specific person.

Federal changes are coming, but nothing has changed yet, and the changes will not affect everyone in the same way.

Important dates

📅 October 1, 2026: Medical Assistance eligibility will change for certain noncitizen adults age 21 or older who are not pregnant.

📅 January 1, 2027: Some adults ages 21–64 may be required to report qualifying work, income, school, volunteering, participation in a work program or an exemption.

📅 January 1, 2027: Some adults may need to renew their Medical Assistance coverage every six months instead of once per year.

📅 January 1, 2028: Medical Assistance will cover fewer months of eligible medical expenses from before a person applies.

What should people do now?

✅ Keep your mailing address, phone number and email updated with your county or Tribal agency.

✅ Watch for official Medical Assistance letters and renewal notices.

✅ Complete renewals and submit requested documents before the deadline.

✅ Report changes involving pregnancy, income, household members or immigration status.

✅ Do not cancel your coverage or assume you are losing Medical Assistance based on rumors or social-media posts.

Some individuals may qualify for an exemption from the work-reporting requirement, including certain people with disabilities or medical needs, caregivers, veterans, Tribal members and others.

Eligibility depends on each person’s individual circumstances. Official DHS, county or Tribal agency notices and decisions control.

Employees must have been actively employed with BHHCS during the official submission window (August 15 – September 30, 2024).

Only current BHHCS employees who meet the program rules qualify for this incentive.

Eligibility is determined by the state’s program guidelines — not by BHHCS alone.

💙 Caregivers — did you know Minnesota’s Enhanced Rate Program can increase your base pay by about 7.5%?

Here’s how it works:
✅ Clients must either receive 10+ hours of PCA/CFSS services per day or have a “TG” (intensive) home care rating.
✅ Caregivers complete DHS-approved Enhanced Rate training and pass the DHS test.

Once those requirements are met, you qualify for the higher rate. 🌟
