After 10 days of rigorous training, two Minnesota National Guard Soldiers graduated from Air Assault School at the Warrior Training Center in Fort Benning, Ga., March 6, 2026.

“Preparation starts well before you ever show up,” said Staff Sgt. Gage Miller.

“I focused on mastering the basics. I made sure I could exceed the minimums on the 2-mile run, Air Assault pushups, and ruck marching, especially under load.”

Inspired by a visit to the war memorial at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Lansdowne found renewed determination to pursue his calling as a military chaplain. With support from his wife, Christy, he navigated the path to become a chaplain, including completing seminary requirements and attending U.S. Army Chaplain Basic Officer Leader Course in 2015.

What should service members do if they are worried about a teammate?

Talk to any one of our prevention specialists. Reach out to your Unit Ministry Team and learn about the resources that you can use to help your teammate. Ensure that teammate can have a say in their care. In most situations, we can help them make decisions collaboratively. We want to maintain respect for each other and ensure they maintain some control over the likely stressful situation. If you or your teammate needs complete confidentiality while you talk it through to decide what is best for you. Talk to any trusted friend. Bottling it up never makes anything better. The hardest step is to reach out; all the steps after will come naturally, with our help, when you decide to take them.

"My role is to provide non-judgmental, confidential resource and referral services. Unless
there is an immediate safety concern, conversations can focus on education and available opptions without triggering formal reporting channels."

Confidential solution-focused readiness support is available through the Soldier &

Family Readiness Specialist (SFRS), allowing Soldiers to discuss concerns and explore
options without judgment.

Resource navigation and problem-solving assistance can help address financial,
family, housing, or administrative challenges before they escalate into crises.

Information and referral services connect Soldiers to trusted military and community
programs tailored to their specific situation, often without requiring formal reporting.

Non-clinical case coordination provides practical guidance and step-by-step support
to resolve issues while preserving dignity and privacy.

Anonymous or low-visibility entry points such as Military OneSource, chaplain
services, or trusted leaders allow Soldiers to seek help in ways that feel safe.

Early engagement focused on prevention helps remove barriers to mission focus and
expands available solutions before problems worsen.

Support for concerned teammates or Family members is also available, enabling
others to seek guidance on how to help a Soldier who may be struggling
