The AFFI is saddened to learn of the passing of active DeKalb Fire Fighters Local 1236 Member Juan Gasca who died off-duty on April 6th.
Although this is not an official activation, Brother Gasca was as an active member of his local and the AFFI Honor Guard.

With heavy hearts, we send our thoughts and prayers to our brothers and sisters of the DeKalb Fire Department, and to the family and friends of the member they lost. May you find strength in one another during this incredibly difficult time.

DeKalb Firefighters Local 1236 regrets to inform our community of the tragic passing of one of our members on Monday, April 6, 2026. Our focus remains on supporting the firefighter’s family, friends, and our members during this difficult time. We sincerely appreciate all of the support we have received, and remind everyone to respect the privacy of the family while they navigate through this difficult time. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Within minutes, our fire yesterday escalated from light smoke in the garage to a MAYDAY for a firefighter through the floor. We are incredibly fortunate to report a successful outcome with no injuries sustained.

This serves as a stark reminder: stay vigilant, train hard, and never succumb to complacency. It can happen to any of us, at any time.

Thank you to everyone across the fire service who reached out. A special thanks to our brothers and sisters on scene and to DuPage Public Safety Communications. We truly can’t do this without one another 💪🏻

PRESS RELEASE: Roselle Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire on Long Ave.

On Tuesday, January 6 at approximately 1:40 p.m., the Roselle Fire Department responded to a structure fire in a single family home in the 100 block of Long Ave. in unincorporated Schaumburg.

The home was full of smoke when the department arrived. Crews made entry with hose lines and initiated an aggressive interior fire attack. While searching for the fire, one responding firefighter fell through the floor but was immediately rescued by other crew members and examined by EMS. The firefighter did not sustain injuries. Crews brought the fire under control shortly after the fall occurred.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Roselle was assisted by Bloomingdale Fire District, Hanover Park Fire Department, Winfield Fire District, Bartlett Fire District, Glenside Fire District, Carol Stream Fire District, Wood Dale Fire District, Itasca Fire District, Addison Fire District, Schaumburg Fire Department, Hanover Township Emergency Services, Cook County Sheriff Department, and the Roselle Emergency Management Agency.

🎄🚗 If you’re headed over the river and through the woods to Grandma’s house this Christmas, it’s important to be prepared!

✔️ Plan Ahead – Check weather and road conditions before you leave. Allow extra time and share your travel plans with someone you trust.
✔️ Buckle Up – Make sure everyone is properly restrained every trip, every time.
✔️ Slow Down – Winter weather can make roads slick. Reduce speed and increase following distance.
✔️ Pack an Emergency Kit – Include blankets, water, snacks, a flashlight, phone charger, jumper cables, and a first-aid kit.
✔️ Stay Alert – Avoid distractions and never drive drowsy or impaired.
✔️ Prepare Your Vehicle – Check tires, brakes, lights, windshield wipers, and fluid levels before hitting the road.
✔️ Watch for Pedestrians – Holiday foot traffic increases, especially in busy shopping and neighborhood areas.
