4. Find an open campsite and then use the Recreation.gov app to scan the QR code at the campground kiosk.
5. Don't want to download the app or don't have a smart phone? Check out the list of concessionaire-operated campgrounds that are accepting cash.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁-𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗴𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀?
Transitioning to a Scan & Pay system reduces the workload for recreation staff while also cutting down on iron ranger theft and cash handling. It saves time for visitors, doesn’t require recreators to carry cash or checks, and can still be used offline, making the payment process easier and more reliable for everyone.

Great reminders for Play, Clean, Go Awareness Week.
We protect the places we love by cleaning, draining, and drying our boats and gear before every launch.
Aquatic invasive species can hitchhike in water, mud, and plant fragments hidden on kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, life jackets, paddles, and other equipment. Taking a few minutes to clean, drain, and dry your gear helps prevent them from spreading to new lakes, rivers, and waterways.
Before heading home or to your next adventure, remember to:
✅ Clean off mud, plants, and debris
✅ Drain all water from your boat and equipment
✅ Allow your gear to dry completely whenever possible

Tomorrow, June 9, National Forest Service Road (NFSR) 2610, also known as Bird Point Road, will be closed on the Diamond Lake District. An alternative route – NFSR 2612 and 2614 – for access around Lemolo Reservoir in either direction of the dam. Please slow down and obey posted signage when traveling in the area.

Fire managers with the Umpqua National Forest recently completed their annual preparedness reviews for the 2026 fire season. These yearly reviews are conducted to help ensure readiness for fire season and focus on all aspects of firefighting from required training and incident response plans to interagency coordination. The review included a visit to the Diamond Lake Ranger District where a variety of stations were set up to help new and returning staff focus on foundational firefighting skills. Stations included establishing an Incident Commander, constructing handlines and deploying fire hose.

Thielsen View Campground will open today for the 2026 season! Camp sites are available first-come, first-served until reservations begin. As a reminder, Forest-operated developed recreation sites, including Thielsen View Campground, will no longer be accepting cash or check for first-come, first-served sites.

As temperatures continue to warm, please do your part to reduce the number of human-caused wildfires. Remember that even fires in Forest-constructed fire rings within designated recreation sites need to be dead out before leaving your campsite. Drown, stir, and feel your campfire with the back of your hand. It should feel cold to touch before leaving your campsite.

𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱
When recreating, avoid feeding, touching, or disturbing wildlife so animals can remain wild and safe.

Here are some tips to protect yourself and wild animals when recreating:
- 𝗗𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 — even small amounts can change their behavior
- 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱, drinks, and trash in hard-sided containers, animal‑proof garbage cans, or car trunks.
- 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗮 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲; animals should not react to your presence
- 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘂𝗽 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳— pack out all trash and food waste from backcountry areas
- 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 to avoid startling or provoking wildlife
- 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝘇𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘀 for photography instead of approaching animals
- 𝗗𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀 — Young animals like fawns or calves are learning essential survival skills such as finding food, shelter, and avoiding predators.
