Friends…
This weekend something magical happens all across Roseburg.
No…
Not a goose convention. (Unfortunately.)
The Roseburg Food Project Green Bags are coming out.
Which means our amazing Neighborhood Coordinators will be out in force collecting bags of food left on porches by community members who quietly and consistently help feed their neighbors.
Every other month, these little green bags bring in nearly 12,000 pounds of food.
TWELVE. THOUSAND. POUNDS.
That’s approximately:
* A lot of canned soup.
* A concerning amount of canned beans.
* Enough food to make a goose wonder if retirement is finally possible.
The best part?
You don’t have to remember food drives.
You don’t have to wait for a special event.
You simply fill your green bag when you can, leave it out on collection day, and your neighbors help it find its way to local families.
Honestly, it’s one of my favorite community programs because it’s just neighbors helping neighbors.
Also, from what I understand, humans get very excited when they hear the words:
“You can sign up to be a donor.”
And it’s true!
If you’d like to become a Green Bag donor, let us know and we’ll help get you connected. Then every other month you can join the secret society of porch-based food superheroes.
Meanwhile, our Neighborhood Coordinators will be traveling the streets this weekend gathering green bags like food-collecting legends.
Please wave if you see them.
Please thank them if you can.
And please don’t hiss at them.
That’s my job.

P.S. If you’ve ever wondered whether 12,000 pounds of food is a lot, I can confirm it is approximately 1,200,000 times heavier than me. I checked the math. Don’t check the math. 🪿
