THE GREAT TOILET PAPER INCIDENT OF 2026

Friends.

I thought it was funny.

Jenn did not.

Apparently when your pantry is COMPLETELY OUT of toilet paper and paper towels, pretending you TP’d the entire building is considered “poor timing.”

Who knew?

Before anyone panics: NO ACTUAL TOILET PAPER WAS HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS PHOTO. We don't have any to harm. THAT IS THE PROBLEM.

So, Honk Herd, I need your help before Jenn figures out how to put a porch goose in time-out.

We are in serious need of toilet paper and paper towels for our pantry. These are things our shoppers need, they’re expensive to buy, and they’re items we don’t regularly get through our food sources.

If you’re out shopping this week and can toss an extra package of toilet paper or paper towels in your cart for FISH, this goose would be VERY grateful.

Mostly because our humans need them.

Slightly because I would like Jenn to stop looking at me like that.

Please help me refill the shelves and get back into the Executive Director’s good graces.

Again: the photo is fake. The empty shelves are VERY real.

Make good choices.

Apparently better choices than I made.

Thankful for our friends Umpqua Health

Our newest team members spent part of their first week at Umpqua Health volunteering at the The FISH of Roseburg.

New hires joined us from Douglas County and across Oregon for on-site orientation. Learning how Umpqua Health works is part of the week. So is getting to know the community we serve and some of the organizations already doing the work here.

Thank you to the The FISH of Roseburg for welcoming our team and for the work you do year-round for Douglas County families.

WHAT’S IN MY CART WEDNESDAY!

Friends, we had a few beautiful, almost-fall-ish days and I got excited.

I was ready.

I was thinking soup. I was thinking sweaters. I was mentally shopping for a jaunty little scarf.

And now we're back in the 90s.

Rude.

So this week I found ELBOW MACARONI in my cart, and we are making something easy, filling, and most importantly...

NOT HOT.

Haddock’s “Fall Has Betrayed Me” Pasta Salad

Grab:

Elbow macaroni
Canned chickpeas or beans, drained
Canned corn or mixed veggies, drained
Canned tomatoes, drained
A little Italian dressing if you have it

No dressing? No problem! A little oil with salt, pepper, garlic powder, or whatever seasonings are hanging around works just fine.

Cook the macaroni, drain it, let it cool, toss everything together and stick it in the fridge.

That's it.

And the best part? You can change it depending on what came home from the pantry. Got fresh zucchini? Dice some up and toss it in. Cucumber? Absolutely. Cheese? Well now we're getting fancy.

I briefly considered making chili mac because it is SEPTEMBER.

Then I walked outside.

Never mind.

I'll be sitting directly in front of the fan with my cold pasta waiting for fall to apologize.

What's your favorite “it's too hot to cook” dinner?

Make good choices,

Haddock

We’re looking for TWO volunteers… or maybe ONE very organized human who wants to do both!

As The FISH continues to grow, we’re looking for a little help keeping some of our behind-the-scenes magic moving.

Volunteer Coordinator — about 2–4 hours a week
Help us organize and coordinate our volunteer schedule, make sure shifts are covered, and help keep our amazing crew of volunteers connected and informed.

DoorDash & Outreach Coordinator — 3-5 hours a week
Help coordinate our DoorDash deliveries and outreach bags — making sure bags are put together, ready to go, and scheduled to get where they need to be.

These can absolutely be two separate volunteer positions, but if you’re someone who loves organizing, coordinating, making lists, and generally keeping all the ducks (or geese) in a row, you could take on both!

Neither position requires you to be at FISH every day, and there is some flexibility in when the work gets done. What we really need is someone dependable, organized, comfortable communicating with people, and excited about helping us make sure food gets where it needs to go.

Interested? Send us a message, stop by the pantry, or email [email protected] and let’s talk!

Sometimes feeding our community looks like packing a bag of groceries. Sometimes it looks like making a really good schedule. Both matter.
