K9 SHERMAN TRACKS DOWN WANTED MAN WHO RAN FROM POLICE
On August 26th, 2025, Officer Dahl and K9 Sherman responded to the 200 block of SE Pine and attempted to contact a subject who had been developed as a suspect in a theft reported about an hour prior. Upon contacting the subject, he was identified and he immediately fled across the river and onto Elk Island. With the assistance of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, numerous officers and deputies surrounded the area. Officer Dahl and Sherman began tracking the subject and ultimately found him hiding in some brush along the river's edge. The subject gave up upon being challenged by K9 Sherman and was taken into custody without further incident. He was then lodged at Douglas County Corrections for a Winston Police Department Felony warrant for Failure to Appear on Burglary in the Second Degree and Theft in the First Degree, a felony probation violation, Escape in the Third Degree, Theft in the Second Degree, and two counts of Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree.
K9 Sherman is a two-and-a-half year old Dutch Shepherd who has been with the Roseburg Police Department for 15 months. He was purchased by anonymous donors in the community and gifted to the agency. The Roseburg Police Department's K9 program is supported financially by private donations and the Friends of Umpqua Valley Police K9 Programs, a non-profit organization whose mission is to support local police K9 teams. Bailey's Veterinary Clinic provides the medical care for K9 Sherman.
