Memorial Day 05-25-2026

We would like to take a moment to celebrate all the men and women who fought and died for our Country.
These selfless, brave veterans laid everything on the line for our freedom and for this we are truly thankful.
As you celebrate with friends and family this weekend, please take a pause to remember and honor those that made the supreme sacrifice for our country.
God Bless America.

As you are cleaning up this weekend, don't forget that we collect scrap metal for our ACT NOW Scrap Metal Project fundraiser. Our trailer is located behind the Gerrish Twp. Police Department. Please note this is for metal items only (see the photo for items we cannot accept). All proceeds from this annual project support the many community programs that ACT NOW and the Gerrish Police Department sponsor.

Our new scrap metal trailer has been filling up quickly. We would like to thank our community partners who donated to the purchase of the trailer, which is a bigger and safer style than what we have been using for several years. Thank you ACT NOW, Roscommon Rotary Club and the Roscommon County Community Foundation!

If you see something you would like to take from the scrap metal trailer (one person's junk may be another person's treasure), we would appreciate it if you would make a small donation as this is a fundraising effort. There is a black box with a sign on the fence behind the trailer for donations.

If you have other items you need to dispose of and don't know what to do with them, check out the photo showing the Household Hazardous Waste Collection, when and where the collection will occur and what items they accept or will not accept.

Together we can make a difference by recycling, keeping our neighborhoods clean and supporting our community programs!!

National Safe Boating Week

National Safe Boating Week runs from May 16 - May 22, leading up to Memorial Day weekend. It marks the official start of the summer boating season. This initiative encourages all boaters, including kayakers and paddleboarders, to practice responsible water safety.
The core safety guidelines are:

Wear Life Jackets: Ensure there are enough U.S. Coast Guard approved, properly fitted life jackets for everyone on board. Coast Guard statistics consistently show that a vast majority of drowning victims in recreational boating accidents were not wearing one.
File a Float Plan: Always tell someone exactly where you are going and when you plan to return.
Stay Sober: Never operate a vessel while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

For more information, facts, safety checks, tips, news and free online boating education, visit Safe Boating Campaign at https://safeboatingcampaign.com.
Let's all have a safe and enjoyable 2026 boating season!

EMS WEEK MAY 17-23, 2026

This week is National EMS Week, a time to show our gratitude toward paramedics and EMT's who provide lifesaving care across the nation every day.
EMS Week is also a time to educate the public about Emergency Medical Service technicians that provide pre-hospital medical care, stablilization, and transport for critical illnesses and injuries.
It takes a team of highly training first responders and emergency dispatchers to provide prompt and professional medical care.
This week, and every week of every year, we would like to recognize all EMS providers for the essential service they provide to our community.
We would like to extend a special THANK YOU to our Gerrish Township EMS staff for their professional care and dedication to our local community. It is an honor to work beside you in emergency situations that require a first response "team" effort in order to provide the optimum outcome for those patients in need.
IMPROVING OUTCOMES, TOGETHER

Spring Road Clean Up

Yesterday afternoon 13 volunteers, including Gerrish Police Officers, cleaned up both sides of County Road 100 from the top of Pioneer Hill to Hillsdale Drive collecting 10 bags of trash.
We pick up trash in May and September as part of Roscommon County's Adopt-A-Road Program to help keep our community clean.
Volunteers enjoyed pizza and pop/water provided by ACT NOW after the clean-up was done.
Thank you to all who took the time to assist with this project!
If you are interested in volunteering for our road clean up efforts, please contact Julie at 989-821-5207 Ext. 291 to add your name to the volunteer list. Our next date is scheduled for September 17, 2026.

At last night's regular Gerrish Township Board meeting, ACT NOW Secretary Julie Hill presented a $3,000.00 donation to Mary Jo Oppy who was representing the Gerrish Township Parks and Recreation committee.
This donation will go towards the new playground spinner that has recently been installed at the Gerrish Municipal Park (behind the Township Office building) and will be an added benefit to youth ages 2-12 for inclusive and accessible play.
ACT NOW is a 501(c)(3) organization that works in coordination with the Gerrish Township Police Department to provide many community programs and projects every year.

MAY is National Bike Month

May is National Bike Month, promoted by the League of American Bicyclists and celebrated in communities across the United States.
National Bike Month was established in 1956 to showcase the many benefits of bicycling and encourage more people to give biking a try.
Whether you ride for fun or fitness, please make sure you are following the Michigan Bicycle Laws to keep everyone safer! Motorists need to use caution when bicyclists are nearby and obey the 3-foot rule always leaving at least three feet when passing bikers.
For reference guides on Bicycle laws and safety please visit our website www.gerrishpolice.org/laws/michigan-bicycle-laws/
You can also stop in to our office Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm and pick up a Bicyclist Guide for tips on riding legally and safely. Guides are available for adult bikers and youth bikers.
