On Saturday August 26th the Roosevelt Fire Department in conjunction with Energy Transfer, Kiowa County Emergency Management, Kiowa County Sheriff's Office, EMS, and Departments around the county conducted a County wide live training simulation of a Tank Battery Fire at the Bretch Transfer Station north of Roosevelt. The scenario covered everything from traffic control to injuries and simulated tank fire. Agencies on scene included Kiowa County SO, Kiowa County Emergency Management, Survival Flight EMS, Carnegie EMS, Representatives from Energy Transfer, and County Fire Departments from Roosevelt, Hobart, Snyder, Sedan, Saddle Mountain, Gotebo, Mtn. View, Cooperton, and Lone Wolf. A huge thank you to Cara Miller Photography for capturing all the events from yesterday.

..RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TO 9 PM CDT SATURDAY FOR
BREEZY WINDS, LOW HUMIDITY, AND HOT TEMPERATURES FOR SOUTHWESTERN
OKLAHOMA AND WESTERN NORTH TEXAS...

* TIMING...12 pm to 9 pm Saturday.

* WINDS...South 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 16 percent.

* TEMPERATURES...107 to 110 degrees.

* IMPACTS...Any fires that develop could spread rapidly. Outdoor
burning is discouraged.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures will
contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Wow. The Kiowa County fire over the weekend was the largest this year in Oklahoma. It burned over 10,000 acres on Sunday and the burn scar can be seen from space
