Two years ago part of the Lockport Township High School Central Campus roof collapsed in, thankfully while no one was in the building.

I was able to secure state funding to assist with the new roof, and this week I got to see the work up close 👷🏽‍♀️

It’s incredibly important that we give our school districts the resources they need to keep students safe while at school, so I’m glad to see all the great progress being made on this historic building from the early 1900s 🏫

Yesterday, I had the distinct honor of speaking on the House floor about Senator Dick Durbin during his return to Springfield. When I was in college, I attended a trip to DC to speak to elected officials about the DREAM Act, a piece of legislation introduced by Senator Durbin to establish a pathway to citizenship for immigrants brought to the US as children. I met with him and discussed how meaningful this legislation was for myself and my family, a conversation and trip that was pivotal in my life.

Despite the DREAM Act having still not passed, it led to DACA, an incredibly important policy that helps immigrants to this day. As we reflect on Senator Durbin's legacy as an elected official, I'm extremely grateful for his advocacy and fight for immigrant rights.
