Strong communities are built by people who show up.

For generations, working people have played an important role in strengthening communities and helping neighbors thrive.

United Way’s partnership with the labor movement dates back to the 1940s, when workers and local unions came together to support their communities during times of need. That partnership has continued to grow, creating connections between labor, United Way, and the people and families they serve.

Today, that same spirit of service and solidarity continues through partnerships with labor organizations across the country.

This Labor Day, we’re celebrating the workers, unions, and community members who show up, lend a hand, and help make our communities stronger.

Here’s to the people who keep our communities moving forward. ❤️

September is National Preparedness Month. We can’t predict the future, but we can be ready for it.

This Preparedness Month, take a few practical steps now: check your emergency contacts, turn on local alerts and make sure the people in your circle know the plan.

Working hard should be enough to afford the basics. But for too many families in our community, it isn’t. Big thanks to Atrium Health Floyd for their gift to help us support working families in Floyd, Polk & Chattooga County! We are so grateful to partner in stabilizing our local workforce and helping employees set and reach their goals.
In Floyd County alone, 30% of families who are working, raising children, caring for loved ones and contributing to our local economy, still struggle to cover essentials like housing, child care, food, transportation and health care. Our Advocacy program helps employees and their families make a plan for success, and can even help with expenses like housing, childcare, and transportation costs.
