Storm Response Update: Downed Trees, Debris and Power Outages

Floyd County Public Works crews are working today to clear downed trees and storm debris after severe weather moved through the area last night around 8 p.m.

One of the largest issues remains on Horseleg Creek Road, where a large oak tree, downed power lines and damaged power poles have caused a continued power outage. Georgia Power crews are on scene and are working to make the area safe. As of the latest update at 10:21 a.m., tree crews were also on site, but removal work is waiting on coordination with the gas company. There is currently no estimated time for the road to reopen.

Floyd County Public Works crews cannot cut or remove trees until utility crews confirm the scene is safe and power lines have been cleared.

During the storm, emergency crews responded to several calls involving downed trees, power lines, transformer fires and road hazards, including reports on Landers Drive, River Place, Pleasant Valley Road, Horseleg Creek Road, Margo Trail, Chulio Road, Radio Springs Road, Mount Alto Road and Beal Lane.

Floyd County Fire Department, Floyd County Police, Public Works and Georgia Power crews have all been involved in the storm response. Several calls came in around the same time during the storm, which led to longer response times than usual.

Drivers are asked to avoid affected areas, use caution near work zones and never approach downed power lines or trees touching power lines.
