The PA Dept of Health has issued an extreme heat advisory for Thursday and Friday. Please be careful to keep yourself, your family, and your pets cool.

Summary:
• Extreme heat is forecasted for Pennsylvania Thursday, June 11 and Friday, June 12, 2026.
• Exposure to extreme heat can cause multiple medical issues including heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
• Extreme heat may increase visits and calls to doctor’s offices, visits to emergency departments, urgent care centers, and hospitalizations.
• There are multiple resources provided by the PA Department of Health (PA DOH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to educate providers and patients on the health risks of extreme heat and ways to mitigate those risks.
• The National Weather Service HeatRisk website shows the Pennsylvania HeatRisk is forecast as major (red) and moderate (orange). HeatRisk uses categories to provide recommendations for outdoor and indoor activity for the general population and sensitive populations (including infants and children, pregnant women, adults over age 65, people with disabilities, mental health conditions, chronic health conditions, substance-use disorders, who lack housing and/or quality housing, access to cooling, are socially isolated, breath polluted air, or work or engage in other strenuous activities outside).

May 17-23 is EMS Week. The theme this year is "Improving Outcomes, Together". Windham QRS (Quick Response Service) is dispatched to serious medical emergencies in Windham Township to start medical care before the ambulance arrives. Sometimes those first few minutes of care really can improve outcomes.

This is our QRS Squad. As you can see, there are only 4 of us to cover 24/7/365. We need help! If you are an EMR or EMT, we would love to have you join the fire department and QRS Squad. If you aren't certified but want to learn, local training is free! There will be an EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) class in Towanda this summer. It is part online and part in person. EMR is a great way to get started in emergency services. Teenagers 16 and up are eligible to take EMR and EMT classes. Help us help our community!
