The Emergency Management Agency has been made aware of a targeted cyberattack against our mass communication vendor commonly known as CodeRED. A theft of an unknown amount of data occurred and users with CodeRED login are encouraged to change passwords.

Floyd County EMA received an email from the CodeRED parent company Crisis24 on Saturday describing a “targeted attack by an organized cybercriminal group” and its impact on Floyd County and local subscribers of the service.

“Please continue to follow safe cybersecurity practices,” said Tim Herrington, director of Floyd County EMA. “Avoid links and attachments from unfamiliar senders and don’t be pressured by callers or emails that compel you to act quickly or share financial information.”

Thank you to EMA Volunteer Marshall Rice for teaching our CERT Explorers about maps and land navigation.

We discussed the compass and how search and rescue teams use technology to track operations. Later on we went outside and used the skills in an actual scavenger hunt.

Geomagnetic storms (the causes of aurora or "northern lights") can impact power systems, spacecraft, satellites, and high frequency radios. That said, this far south, no impacts are expected.

We ❤️ public education events! Today we got to share information about EMA and show off our drone and communication trailer.

We also met some great kids who are going to be our next generation of EMA volunteers and educators.

Thank you Scouts for inviting us to the annual EM Prep event at Home Depot.

Our full scale exercise at Armuchee High School was a great success thanks to our partners at Floyd County Schools, Georgia, all of our amazing public safety friends and most importantly the student volunteers from across the county.

The exercise also gave us an opportunity to deploy and test our communications trailer built and maintained by our volunteers from Amateur Radio Service.
