Rome Fire Department, Ashtabula County Ohio Rome Fire Department responds to many types of calls. Rome Fire is also part of the Ashtabula County Water rescue team. In 1927 Rome Twp. for $50.00 per year. D.

The earliest fire protection was the old dinner bell which would ring non stop if an emergency would occur. Friends and families would come as fast as possible with their buckets to form a "bucket brigade" and save whatever may be salvagable. entered an agreement with Rock Creek Village to provide fire protection through the Rock Creek Fire Dept. In 1931 the fee was lowered to $25.00 per year! In

about 1935, H. Kellogg started a project to provide Rome with its own volunteer fire department. The department started with 15 men and each man was supplied with two 12 quart buckets which were painted red. these were only to be used for fires and when a man answered the call, he had to bring his buckets along. In August of 1935, Rome Township Trustees approved funds to be used for other equipment. Through the years additional "used equipment" was secured for the fire department. In the early 1950's a levy was passed to secure funds to buy a new international Fire Truck, their was much debate and promising to muster up the votes needed to secure this truck and in 1955 a two bay fire building was built to house it. Charles Hedrick was Fire Chief during the construction of the fire hall. Today, Ed Koziol is Fire Chief and many hours per month go into the training, maintenance, and recording of our department.

Today, four local fire departments, Hartsgrove Twp Fire Department, Montville Fire Rescue, Trumbull Township Fire and Rescue, joined the Rome Fire Department, with Instructors from Auburn Career Center Adult Public Safety to instruct 30 Firefighter 1 & 2 students from Auburn Career Center in rural water movement. Great day working with our mutual aid departments and assisting with training these future firefighters. Thank you for participating.

We want to congratulate two Rome Fire Department members who have completed their Fire Safety Inspector Class. This course started in the end of March with 7 weeks of online with a total of 16 Chapters and the Ohio Fire Code to be learned, Discussion Boards, Quizzes and Tests. Then this past week they went to Bowling Green University for their week in class portion of the class. During the week they were in class from 0800-1700hrs each day with walk throughs of Penta Career Center in Perrysburg, they also visited Spartan Chemical Company in Maumee, and also visited one of the dorms on campus to learn about Fire Protection Systems. Again we would like congratulate Fred Klingman and Kyle Hammon for passing their Fire Safety Inspector Course through Bowling Green State University State Fire School.

National Fallen Firefighters Memorial
The United States Congress created the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to lead a nationwide effort to remember America's fallen firefighters. Since 1992, the tax-exempt, nonprofit Foundation has developed and expanded programs to honor our fallen fire heroes and assist their families and coworkers.
The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service will be held Sunday, May 3, 2026, to honor firefighters who died in the line of duty.
In accordance with Public Law 107-51, the American flag should be lowered to half-staff on Sunday, May 3, 2026, from sunrise to sunset in observance of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.

1992, Pre-delivery inspection of our Rescue Truck at JB Res-Q in Moon Twp., PA. Cost was $105,000. The truck is still in service, in very good condition, and carries heavy rescue tools, rope rescue gear, a cascade air system, and a 12kw generator.
