FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hello, to the community of the City of Rome. These past few months, RRS has been taking time to reflect and re-evaluate our organizations goals and plan for the future. As many may know, on January 20, 2025, refugee admissions for the United States was cancelled. This program is still currently closed, and therefore there has been much concern here at RRS.

In our evaluations, we explored every opportunity possible, in order to utilize our resources to continue to help our refugee and immigrant friends. This is when we learned about the Afghan/Iraqi SIV program.

This program allows eligible groups to sponsor Afghan and Iraqi families already in the United States on a Special-Immigrant Visa. This category specifies that someone in the family worked for an American company, or for the American government, and are allies of the United States. With this program, sponsors provide services to these families, and as we must align with our mission, we feel this is the next step to our success in aiding others.

Though we have plans to help the community throughout the coming months, this program would be a great way to utilize our resources to continue to radiate our organization's mission.

BUT, WE NEED YOUR HELP! Without volunteers, this program is unfortunately not possible. We are searching for volunteers who are willing to help with things like furnishing apartments, aiding in the search of jobs, registration for school-aged children, providing transportation to appointments, etc. If this is something you feel you would be interested in, please reach out to us at [email protected].

We hope to hear from you, and we are excited to be back, although not at full-force, in some capacity!

FELIZ MES DE LA HERENCIA HISPANA!

Through September 15-October 15, we celebrate our Hispanic community. A community that brings so much to the table. A community that is hard-working, close-knit, inspiring and motivating. At Rome Refugee Services, we cherish our Hispanic friends very close. They are the backbone of every community, and an inspiration to all. Many don't understand the pure struggle of simply being an immigrant, nor the challenges faced upon arrival to our country. The challenges faced being different. But, here at Rome Refugee Services, we see the perseverance and motivation of our friends to work hard, learn English, and contribute to a community that they can call home. Today and everyday we celebrate our Hispanic community, and the contributions they make daily to not only their families and friends, but to the Rome community.

TO THE HISPANIC COMMUNITY:
Nunca subestimes en ser hispano. Es un regalo, una bendición. Ser hispano es algo bonito, ademas es una inspiración. Gracias a todos que han sacrificado sus vidas a proporcionar una vida nueva para sus hijos, sus miembros de familia. Sabemos el desafío, sabemos la lucha, y siempre estamos aquí para ayudarles. Cada día y especialmente esta mes, celebraremos sus logros, y sin su ayuda, seriamos nada. Que permanecen fuerte, y nunca deja a nadie contarle que no puedes. Porque nosotros al Rome Refugee Services estamos aquí para contarle que siempre, no importa la lucha, PUEDES.

June 18th, we lost a beautiful soul. Kari always made sure we laughed, and always went out of her way to ensure every family and every client we helped left our office with a smile on their face. Kari was the glue that held our organization together, and we will forever be grateful for her contributions to Rome Refugee Services. Kari was a bright, beautiful soul, and we will forever cherish memories made with her. Rest in Peace Kari, we will forever cherish you.

ANNOUNCEMENT!! 📣

Rome Refugee Services is now again operating after a brief pause due to shifting resources and operations.

Those who had inquired about volunteering will be invited to a meeting in the month of May to discuss operations going forward.

We are now taking clients for case management services and are planning to re-implement other various services soon.

Please stay tuned for updates, and we thank everybody for your continued support of Rome Refugee Services.
