This has been a difficult week for our community.

We have seen the strength of our firefighters, the compassion of our neighbors, and the challenges that some of our community families are facing right now.

There are no perfect words for moments like these.

To the families navigating uncertainty, loss, hardship, and difficult days, please know that you are not alone. We stand with you, we care about you, and we will continue to be here for you.

In the fire service, we answer calls every day. Some remind us just how important family, community, and compassion truly are. This past week has been one of those reminders.

Behind every address is a family. Behind every call is a story. And behind every difficult moment are people who need the support of those around them.

Please keep these families in your thoughts and prayers. Check on one another. Be kind to one another. Hold your loved ones a little closer.

On behalf of the firefighters, staff and Trustee of Orange Township , thank you for showing what community looks like when people need it most.

God bless the families facing difficult days, God bless our community, and God bless each of you.

You folks are an incredible blessing to this community

Structure Fire Results in Multiple Structures Involved 5-29-2026

Orange Township Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire that was initially dispatched as a fully involved building fire. Upon arrival , Orange Township observed a collapsed garage and a residential structure heavily involved in fire.

Due to the rapid progression of the fire and the immediate threat to neighboring properties, crews initiated a defensive fire attack to building 1. Also protecting adjacent homes and limit further property loss. As conditions escalated and additional structures became involved, a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd alarm assignment was requested from initial dispatches into the progression of arriving units.

Mutual aid departments from Albion, Kendallville, Johnson Township, Ligonier, Avilla, Topeka, and LaGrange responded to provide firefighting personnel, apparatus, and water shuttle operations. Stroh Fire provided water shuttle and coverage at the Orange Township Firehouse. An alternate water supply was established utilizing Dorothy 1, allowing firefighters to conduct suppression operations from the lakeside.

Assisting agencies included Parkview EMS, the Red Cross, Paul Davis Restoration, Noble County Emergency Communications, Noble County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), Jan Abbs, and Noble County REMC.

Crews returned to service near 7&8 pm while other crews remained on the scene later. Engine 61 was back in the firehouse at about 2 am.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.

No further information is available for release at this time.

🚑 Orange Township Fire Department Update 🚑

Orange Township Fire Department is proud to announce that SIX of our apparatus are now equipped with LifeVac airway clearance devices.

While we never anticipate needing to use these devices, we absolutely intend to have them available if the moment ever comes.

LifeVac devices are designed as an additional tool that may assist in severe choking emergencies when traditional methods are unsuccessful. These devices can provide another option during critical moments where every second matters.

It is important to understand:

⚠️ LifeVac is NOT a replacement for proper emergency care or standard choking procedures.

Back thrusts and abdominal thrusts (Heimlich maneuver) remain the primary and most important first-line actions when treating a conscious choking victim. Our personnel will continue to prioritize proven emergency procedures, with LifeVac serving only as an additional resource when appropriate.

At Orange Township Fire Department, we believe preparation matters. We hope these devices never need to be used — but we are committed to providing our firefighters and EMS personnel with every possible tool to help protect our community.

Thank you for continuing to support your firefighters and first responders.

From all of us at the Orange Township Fire Department, Orange Township Trustee Shawn Wilson , and entire team. We share this with you.

This Memorial Day Weekend, we pause not for a sale, a long weekend, or a day away from work—but for something far more important.

We pause to remember the men and women who left their homes, kissed their families goodbye, and answered a call to service knowing there was a chance they might never return. They stood watch in places most of us will never see, carried burdens most of us will never fully understand, and gave everything they had for a nation they loved.

Some came home forever changed.

Some never came home at all.

Their sacrifice purchased freedoms that cannot be measured in dollars, votes, or words. Every family gathering, every graduation, every baseball game, every community event, every ordinary moment we enjoy today exists because extraordinary Americans were willing to protect it.

As firefighters, public servants, trustees, employees, and neighbors, we understand that service often requires sacrifice. Yet none of our sacrifices compare to those made by the brave men and women whose names are etched into memorials across this country and whose absence is still felt at dinner tables throughout America.

This weekend, we ask our community to remember them.

Remember the empty chair.

Remember the folded flag.

Remember the Gold Star families who continue to carry a loss that never truly fades.

Remember that freedom has always come at a cost paid by someone else on our behalf.

To all who have served, and especially to those who made the ultimate sacrifice, we offer our deepest gratitude and our solemn promise that your service will never be forgotten.

May we honor your memory not only with words, but by living lives worthy of the freedoms you helped secure.

Thank you. We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

🇺🇸 God Bless Our Fallen Heroes. God Bless Their Families. God Bless America. 🇺🇸
