Luke Heffron for Benton County

Luke Heffron for Benton County I'm Luke Heffron, candidate for Justice of the Peace in District 5.

Benton County has been my home for over 20 years and I'd consider it a privilege to serve my neighbors and fight for a bright future for our children.

On Thursday, I spoke to the Benton County Quorum Court in support of Sheriff Holloway using his authority to enforce local, state, and federal laws. The Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette covered the event. For brevity, they clipped my comments so I've included my prepared statement below.

"Last month a man stood at this podium and called ICE officers, and those that supported them, sub-human. He said he wished he was a Christian so he could believe we would all burn in hell. Crazies are everywhere, but last month, he was applauded. This evening I want to thank Judge Mooring for his leadership through public comments, but I believe the opponents of 287(g) have still been given a lot of deference [give examples of people going over by more than 3 min, give examples of disruptions]. The supporters of 287(g) that have spoken tonight, that these people believe to be sub-human, have followed the rules and I can say from experience, they will likely be harassed and bullied for their courage. Two months ago, after I spoke, I received messages and a voicemail with slanderous claims that I was a pe*****le. And while their projection is pervasive, and pernicious, it should not be permissible.
Last month the quorum court decided not to suspend the rules. It decided instead to allow a talking point for two additional months and permit this farce to continue. I have the utmost respect and admiration for Justices Bollinger and Rosenbaum who stated in effect, that they didn’t like being called racist, but they had tough skin and it was worth it to allow public comments. Respectfully the decision to suspend the rules isn’t about you. It instead is about this podium. The public should have a right to speak, but the public is not merely represented by these fanatical communists looking for an excuse to eliminate their sub-human enemies like what happened to Charlie Kirk when he spoke. The Public is the people who voted for Sheriff Holloway and gave him the jurisdiction and obligation to pursue justice in Benton County. It’s the people who voted for each of you. It’s the people who oppose this radical ideology and who will be bullied and harassed for doing so. You may not see suspension of the rules as fair, but neither is allowing one side to bully and harass the other because they see them as sub-human. So instead of fairness, pursue justice. Remove the talking point and show Benton County that its public officials take seriously their obligation to pursue righteousness and punish lawlessness."

BENTONVILLE -- Benton County's partnership with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement drew a firestorm of comments at Thursday's Quorum Court meeting.

Here is another great business that has deep roots in District 5! Bizzy B's Bakery made our wedding cake back in 2013 and is a regular stop when we have a sweet tooth. The chocolate croissants and cream cheese danishes are our go to but the quiche and kolaches are a favorite for when we're in the mood for something savory. We're thankful for families like the McChristians for being part of Bentonville and Benton County.

*DISCLAIMER* Bizzy B's is not endorsing my campaign, this is just me sharing how much I appreciate their investment in our community.

Let's talk about another small business here in District 5! My job requires that I be on my feet on concrete floors all day. I've never particularly liked shoe shopping but the folks over at Rush Running absolutely nailed it. The staff was super friendly and took time to understand what I needed. Next time you're in the market for a pair of athletic shoes, shop local and go see the team at Rush Running.

District 5 has so many incredible businesses that are locally owned. Great Day Skate Place is one such business that happens to hold an extra special place for me. I took Katie on countless dates at Great Day. I proposed to her at Great Day. We announced the pending arrival of our oldest son at Great Day. District 5 isn't just my home, it's my history and I am proud to be running to represent such a family focused community.

Happy Independence Day!

In the last 250 years we have had 45 different presidents, two of which have served non consecutive terms making the current administration the 47th. One of my favorite presidents was Theodore Roosevelt. Why?

🌲He had a great respect for the beauty of creation, and established the National Parks to preserve and protect American beauty.

🧭He was an asthmatic that embraced adventure. He pushed through disability instead of being defined by it.

Who is your favorite president, and what makes them your favorite?

Our fathers' God, to thee,
Author of liberty,
To thee we sing;
Long may our land be bright
With freedom's holy light;
Protect us by thy might,
Great God, our King.
- Samuel Franis Smith (1832) | My Country, 'Tis of Thee

As always, the fireworks on Loch Lomond were spectacular; the perfect start to a weekend celebrating the precious gift of freedom endowed by our Creator.

We extend our deepest condolences not only to his family but to his brothers and sisters in blue.

Our law enforcement family is mourning the loss of a truly remarkable man.

After many years of dedicated service, Chris Kelley, a longtime Deputy Sheriff with the Benton County Sheriff's Office, (Reserve Lieutenant), and Captain with the Centerton Police Department, has passed away.

He was more than a badge and a uniform. He was a respected leader, a trusted mentor, a loyal friend, a devoted husband, and a servant to his community. His kindness, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to others left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

He led with integrity, treated people with respect, and earned the admiration of colleagues, friends, and community members alike. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched throughout his career and beyond.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all who served alongside him during this difficult time.

Thank you for your service, your friendship, and the example you set for so many. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

Rest easy, brother. We have the watch from here.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to take my wife and kids to tour the USS Cavalla and the USS Stewart. We read about the men who served on a submarine that sank a Japanese aircraft carrier in the wake of Pearl Harbor and the men who manned the guns of the Stewart as she escorted cargo ships through the waters being patrolled by German U Boats. Today I took my family to New Life Church in Bella Vista where we gathered with our community to honor the fallen. We pause to remember the brave men and women who never grew old in the land of the free because they defended our home. Honoring their memory is a call to action. How will we answer the call?
