Christopher Fuller is a Probationary Firefighter/EMT assigned to Squad 27. He joined the fire service in July 2025 and has been serving the SSFD community for the past 9 months.

Christopher became a firefighter because he enjoys helping people and wanted to make a positive impact on those around him. He loves the excitement of the job and the opportunity to assist people when they need it most. One of his proudest accomplishments is earning his EMT certification, allowing him to provide even more care during medical emergencies.

Favorite part of the job:
“Knowing I’m making a difference in people’s lives and helping them when they’re in need.”

Safety Tip: Put your phone down while driving.

Advice for those interested in the fire service:
“Give it a try. Every day is different, and there’s a lot more to the job than what the public sees

This week we’re featuring Firefighter Samuel Jouault of Squad 27! Samuel has proudly served in the fire service for 1 year and says one of the best parts of the job is the strong sense of community that comes with it.

Samuel became a firefighter to make a meaningful impact on both himself and his community. He enjoys constantly learning new skills and values the accomplishment that comes from furthering his knowledge on the job every day.

The rain didn’t stop us this morning—and it won’t stop this crew.

We all get to do this, and that’s what makes it special. Today’s MURPH was wet, gritty, and absolutely worth every rep. Thank you to everyone who showed up, pushed through the weather, and put in the work together. That kind of effort reflects the strength of this community and the brotherhood (and sisterhood) of our fire family.

🇺🇸⚓⚓ As Memorial Day Weekend approaches, make boating safety a priority on South Carolina waters.

✔️ Children under 12 must wear a life jacket while the boat is underway
✔️ Make sure you have required safety gear onboard — life jackets, fire extinguishers, sound devices, and navigation lights
✔️ Operators under 16 must complete a boater education course for vessels over 15hp
✔️ Never operate a boat under the influence — BUI laws carry the same 0.08% BAC limit as driving

Before heading out:
🛥️ Check your fuel, gauges, and registration
📍 Share a float plan with someone on shore
⚠️ Slow down near docks, anchored boats, and swimmers

🔥 Meet the Member Monday 🔥

This week we’re featuring Probationary Fire Fighter/EMT Jerrad Ellwanger of Ladder 24. Jerrad has proudly served the South Spartanburg Fire District for 9 months and says the best part of the job is the brotherhood and being able to serve the South Spartanburg community.

Jerrad joined the fire service for the physical and mental challenge that comes with the job. He enjoys how the career pushes you to develop discipline, problem-solving skills, and mental toughness while staying in shape and serving others.

One accomplishment Jerrad is especially proud of is obtaining his EMT certification.

🚒 Safety Tip: Change your smoke alarm batteries when the time changes, and never leave food on the stove without supervision.

This week we’re featuring Firefighter/EMT Jordan Lawson of Ladder 24! Jordan has proudly served in the fire service for 1 year and says the best part of the job is the adrenaline of the fireground and knowing he’s helping others in their time of need.

Jordan joined the fire service because he loves serving the community and thrives in high-pressure situations. His favorite part about serving this community is being able to make a difference while doing a job he truly enjoys.
