đźš’ Calling Our Retired & Longtime Members đźš’

Rocky Point Volunteer Fire Department wouldn’t be what it is today without the men and women who came before us. Your years of service, dedication, and sacrifice helped build the foundation we stand on.

We’ve recently had several of our retired and longtime members express interest in getting together occasionally — just to sit down, catch up, share stories, and enjoy the brotherhood and sisterhood that made this department feel like home.

If you are a retired or past member, especially one of our longtime members, and would be interested in joining us for casual meet-ups, we would truly love to reconnect with you.

đź“© Please send us a message so we can start putting something together.

No matter how long it’s been, you’re still part of this family — and you always will be.

🚒 Apparatus Spotlight – Tanker 22 🚒

We’ve been getting a lot of great questions lately about our trucks—what they do and why we have so many. So we’re kicking off something new…

Welcome to our Apparatus Spotlight Series, where we break down each piece of equipment and show you how it helps us serve our community.

đź’§ Meet Tanker 22 đź’§

Tanker 22 is a 2004 Kenworth W900 that carries 3,500 gallons of water—and when hydrants aren’t available, this truck becomes one of the most important tools on the fireground.

đźš° What does it do?
In many parts of our district, hydrants are limited. Tanker 22 transports water directly to the scene and supplies our fire engines so they can continue fire attack without running out of water.

🔥 More than just a water hauler
Tanker 22 is also equipped with a small onboard pump, allowing crews to handle smaller fires on its own if needed.

🏊‍♂️ Portable water supply
We also carry a 3,500-gallon drop tank—basically a portable pool. Tankers dump water into it, and engines draft from it, creating a steady water supply even in areas without hydrants.

👨‍🚒 It may not always be the first truck you notice—but when water supply becomes a challenge, Tanker 22 is the backbone of the operation.

Stay tuned as we continue to highlight more of the trucks and equipment that help keep Rocky Point and Pender County protected every day.

Good morning everyone! Just a friendly reminder that the burn ban is still in place even though we had a day full of rain. With the upcoming weather and low humidity, it is still a dangerous time to burn and fires can spread very rapidly. Please be safe, don't burn, and help us keep our resources ready to respond to emergencies!

BURN BAN IN EFFECT. If you are burning, the Fire Marshalls Office, NC Forestry, and/or the Pender County Sheriffs Office may issue citations as well as recoup any cost associated with fire extinguishment. We ask that you please wait until conditions improve and the burn ban has been lifted. Thank you!

Fire danger is high, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. Fires can start almost immediately and easily from all causes. Fires can spread rapidly and intensify quickly. Spot fires can be a constant danger.

Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.

🚨 Roadway Safety Reminder from Rocky Point Fire Department 🚨

Good evening everyone,

Due to several recent incidents on our roadways, Rocky Point Fire Department would like to remind our community of North Carolina traffic laws, safe driving practices, and the critical role you play in helping emergency responders do their job safely and effectively.

When an emergency happens, seconds matter. Firefighters, EMS, and law enforcement are doing everything possible to reach those in need quickly and safely. While some emergency vehicle actions may appear aggressive or unusual, all operations are conducted with due regard for public safety—a requirement under North Carolina law.

We also want to assure the community that any concerns regarding emergency vehicle operations are taken seriously. All reported incidents are reviewed internally, and when appropriate, outside agencies are involved to ensure accountability and continuous improvement.

đźš’ Highly Trained Emergency Vehicle Operators

All of our drivers are, at a minimum, State of North Carolina certified Emergency Vehicle Drivers. Many also hold advanced certifications, including Class B, Class A, and Emergency Vehicle Driver Instructor qualifications. This ensures that every operator is trained to the highest standards in both safety and response.

🚗 When You See Emergency Vehicles Responding (NCGS §20-157):

When an emergency vehicle is approaching with lights and sirens:

• Two-lane roads: Traffic in both directions must pull to the right and come to a complete stop
• Multi-lane roads: Safely move to the right and yield to allow passage
• Divided highways/interstates: Opposing traffic is not required to stop if separated by a median

Drivers are required by law to yield the right-of-way and remain stopped until the emergency vehicle has safely passed.

⚠️ Move Over Law – When Crews Are Working on Scene (NCGS §20-157(f)):

When approaching an emergency or public service vehicle stopped with flashing lights:

• Move over to the next lane if it is safe to do so
• If unable to move over, slow down, maintain a safe speed, and be prepared to stop

This law applies to fire, EMS, law enforcement, tow operators, and utility crews.

🚫 Additional Important Safety Laws (NCGS §20-157):

• Do NOT follow fire apparatus to an emergency scene
• Do NOT park within 100 feet of emergency vehicles operating on scene
• Do NOT drive over fire hoses or equipment
• Do NOT block access to emergency vehicles or their water supply

Violations of these laws can result in fines, misdemeanor charges, or more serious penalties if injury or damage occurs.

This isn’t just about following the law—it’s about protecting the responders working just feet from passing traffic. These are your neighbors, friends, and family members.

By following these laws, you help us reach emergencies faster and keep responders safe on scene. One day, that someone in need could be you or someone you love.

Stay alert. Move over. Slow down. Be courteous. Save a life.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in keeping our community safe.
