Kent Smith is a lifelong farmer whose roots in agriculture – and in the community – run deep. Raised on his families farm, he began working alongside his father and grandfather. At just 12 years old, learning firsthand the values of hard work Stewardship and long-term planning.
After attending NC State University, Kent returned home, committed to strengthening the family operation. He launched his own farming business in 1980 and later became the third generation owner of the family farm, continuing a legacy that spans decades. Today, he overseas a diverse agricultural operation, producing cotton, soybeans,tobacco, sweet potatoes, and peanuts.
Kent leadership extends well beyond his own Fields. He serves as a delegate on the National Cotton Council and Southern Southeast Cotton, is a board member of Cotton Inc and is a former president – and current board member – of all North Carolina Cotton growers associations. Serves as a board member on Farm Bureau, and serves on two HOA boards. Over the years he has also served on numerous agriculture boards and committees, helping guide policy and strengthen rural economics.
In addition to farming, Kent partnered in 2004 with longtime friend Chris Collie, founder of C&C industrial. Bringing strategic leadership and business experience, Kent helped grow the company into a top-tier concrete contracting firm serving North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina.
Kent and his wife, Susan, have been married for 44 years. They have two children Austin and Michele their spouses Katie and Vincent and are proud grandparents of two granddaughters Sloane and Marley.
Kent is running for county commissioner to bring practical experience, physical responsibility and a lifelong commitment to the community and local government.
