In 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and designated the week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week. National Police Week serves as a time for our nation to honor and remember the law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. It stands as a solemn reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment of those who protect our communities at the cost of their own lives.
Law Enforcement Officers who make the ultimate sacrifice are added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial.
This week is very near and dear to my heart because 6 years ago I traveled to Washington DC to see my best friends name be etched into that wall.
God Bless the men and women who selflessly strap on that vest and duty belt everyday.
