DOES A TITLE MAKE A LEADER?
One argument in this election is that Bobby Knight’s opponent is more qualified to be Sheriff because he currently holds the rank of Major.
But a title and leadership are not the same thing.
Bobby Knight has served in more than one law enforcement agency, giving him experience with different organizations, leadership styles, and approaches to policing.
Leadership isn’t simply measured by rank. When the current Sheriff was first elected Sheriff in 2010, he was serving as an SBI agent and had previously worked for the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office as a detective.
A Sheriff doesn’t personally answer every call or investigate every case. The Sheriff leads the organization by building a team, setting direction, and securing the resources employees need to serve the public.
If holding the rank of Major is presented as evidence of leadership experience, voters can also consider the performance of the leadership team that person has been part of.
Bobby Knight’s opponent has stated that he would not change anything. He even went so far as to say that people do not like change.
This election isn’t about who currently holds the highest rank on paper. It’s about who has the vision to move forward, the ability to earn trust, and the kind of leadership people WANT to follow.
That’s Bobby Knight.
The Change We Need.
