Happy Juneteenth!!!

NASW-CT Executive Director, Dawn Brown, was grateful to attend another successful Greater Hartford Alliance of Black Social Workers Juneteenth Scholarship Breakfast Celebration. It was a wonderful celebration that uplifted the work of social workers in the community. This Scholarship Breakfast Celebration honors and leaves a legacy while providing funding and support to the next generation. It was wonderful to hear from Dr. Sharale Mathis, Campus President of Capital & Tunxis CT State Community College, the first African American woman to serve as a CT College President.

A huge thank you to our phenomenal 2026 NASW-CT Conference Keynote panel, "AI, Social Work and You": Senator James Maroney, B. Sudie Akinrotiba, PhD, LMSW, and Dena M. Castricone. CIPP/US, CIPM. Your engaging discussion about the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) reminds us how imperative it is that we are at the table of all conversations, legislation and advancements of AI. NASW-CT appreciates your expertise and insights. As a profession routed in social justice, equity, ethics, critical inquiry and integrity, this thought-provoking discussion was both educational and inspiring!

Survival is the baseline. But what does true liberation look like?
If you’re headed to , don’t just fill your schedule with standard lectures. Make sure you’re in the room for a conversation that aims to shift the culture.

See what we’re unpacking at this year's CEO Speaker Series session:
“Healing While Black: From Survival to Liberation for Black Men and Boys.”

We’re going beyond textbooks to explore healing, mental health, and the real-world experiences of Black men and boys through the lens of modern social work practice, leadership, and advocacy.
Drop a if we'll see you there, and tag a colleague who needs to put this on their calendar!

Featuring:
NASW CEO Anthony Estreet, PhD, MBA, LCSW-C
D’Wayne James, PhD, LCSW
Brandon Frame, EdD
Paul Bashea Williams, LCSW-C, LICSW
