TUESDAY DRILL, June 9, 2026

During this Tuesday’s drill, the members of Fire Company No. 2 spent the evening on vehicle stabilization and extrication. Some of the members had the opportunity earlier in the day to work with the Rescue Jacks at a motor vehicle accident where the driver was trapped in their car. Honing these skills is essential when performing rescues, especially when individuals are in vehicles that have sustained significant damage or in unusual positions.

The rest of the members were also at the training ground behind Company No. 2 on New Britain Ave. Members were split into crews and rotated through the various operations that are performed during a structure fire. Water supply begins with attaching to a fire hydrant and providing water to the engine. The engineer/operator supplies the fire attack crew with water through the hose lines. The crew on fire attack moves the hose to the seat of the fire. The search team enters the structure often before the attack team and looks for victims and determines where the fire is located. The final group of firefighters used various ground ladders to provide for either rescue of victims or escape for fire personnel.

On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, the Rocky Hill Fire Department was dispatched at 4:15 p.m. to a motor vehicle accident at 867 Cromwell Ave. The dispatch included information that a vehicle had traveled over the embankment and was stuck on top of the retaining wall of the adjacent property and was still occupied. On arrival, the vehicle was being partially supported by the fence on the top of the retaining wall.

Engine 2 was directed to stabilize the vehicle from below. They positioned Rescue Jacks to support the fence rail that was supporting the front of the vehicle. Rescue 3 was given the directive to stabilize the vehicle from behind. A cable was attached from the winch of the rescue to the under carriage of the vehicle.

Once the vehicle stabilized, the occupant was extricated and transferred to EMS for evaluation. The vehicle was removed, and the fire department cleared the scene at 5:16 p.m.

There were no injuries to the occupant or any first responders.
