As Colorado continues to evaluate growth and development proposals, zoning and land use decisions, including annexations, this research and article by the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy offers a timely reminder: transparency and accountability matter, especially when decisions carry long-term impacts for communities and resources near and far.

On May 7, The Colorado Sun hosted a water event in Rocky Ford. The panel discussion featured representatives from Colorado Springs Utilities and Aurora Water alongside local leaders and experts from the Lower Valley, creating an important opportunity for public dialogue grounded in the rural communities most directly affected by growth decisions made along the Front Range.

Big win for southeastern Colorado!

The Lower Ark District thanks our prime bill sponsors Representative Ty Winter, Representative Tisha Mauro, Senator Rod Pelton, and Senator Nick Hinrichsen for their leadership and bipartisan commitment in advancing HB26-1340 through the Colorado General Assembly.

This new legislation will bring long-overdue accountability and responsible land stewardship to how formerly irrigated farmland is stewarded after water leaves the land, better protecting the neighbors and communities who are left behind.
