It's that time of year when backyard BBQ's, camping and firepits, and swim parties are getting ready to happen! While we enjoy those times as much as you do we also unfortunately have to turn down requests and inquiries on filling pools up. With the liabilities and water accountability it makes it impossible for us to accommodate our neighbors. Thank you for understanding and please have a fun but safe swimming season!

We want to inform everyone in Rockwood that the Fire Dept will be be conducting our annual testing and flowing of Fire Hydrants over the next couple of months. During this time you may notice that your water appears slightly cloudy or dirty, just allow it to run for a couple of minutes until it clears up. In the event you need to do laundry and are worried about the water try to wait until the evening hours as we will only be testing in residential areas during the day. Also if you are driving past or thru an area that you observe Fire dept personnel out testing please slow down and use caution while passing.

Today members of our department participated in free training that was offered by the "Middle Tennessee Association of Fire Chiefs" and hosted by LaVergne Fire Department. This was an opportunity to get outside of our Rockwood/Roane County bubble for networking & training. This exposes us to other departments and allows us to discuss their techniques, procedures, and see how they operate in their part of the state. We can then bring that information back to our department and possibly benefit from new ideas and perspectives. Training today for tomorrow's emergencies!

Last night at 2144 hrs our department was dispatched to a structure fire at the corner of Tarwater St. & Lakemont Heights. On arrival we found a single family home that was 40-50% involved. Only one occupant was on scene and had already exited the structure prior to our arrival, he made us aware that he had two dogs inside the home, after a quick search of the unburned areas of the structure one dog was found alive but suffering from smoke inhalation, the dog was administered O2 via our pet mask and appeared to recover with no lasting impairments. Owner and pet were reunited at the scene, fortunately the other dog was able to exit on its own but ran off and we were unable to locate it during the event. We were assisted by Rockwood Police, Rockwood Animal Control, Harriman FD thru our auto aid, Roane County EMS, and Rockwood Electric Utility, thanks to all of our neighboring agencies for helping out and working together to mitigate this emergency to the best possible outcome.

Today we received a direct call to the station from a gentleman that was trimming trees for a customer and became stuck in a minor predicament when his bucket truck blew a hydraulic line. After responding non emergency to his location we were able to "rescue" him from his mid morning work break and his birds eye view! In all seriousness we did give him a lift back down to solid ground with no injuries or worse for wear. These are the kind of calls you enjoy, you can have a little laugh, no one was hurt, and you get good practice and experience with your equipment. Solid work by A-shift today!

Our department spent the last two days finishing up our 2026 state in-service training by hosting instructors from the Tennessee Fire and Codes Academy for "Aerial Apparatus Familiarization". This class was basically an aerial refresher along with some drills, hydrant operations, and updates on aerial apparatus, part classroom and lots of hands on work. This class allowed us to have controlled time with our equipment so we can stay proficient and update our techniques. Training today for tomorrow's emergencies!
