Rockwall County Sheriff’s Posse Celebrates 35 Years of Service, Community, and Western Heritage
Rockwall, Texas — The Rockwall County Sheriff’s Posse proudly celebrates its 35th anniversary, marking more than three decades of dedicated service to the citizens of Rockwall County. Since its founding in 1991, the all-volunteer mounted unit has played a role in supporting public safety while preserving the rich Western heritage of the community.
For 35 years, members of the Posse have assisted local law enforcement and first responders in a variety of ways - from helping remove livestock from roadways to providing mounted patrol support during community events. Their visible presence on horseback has become a trusted and familiar symbol of safety, service, and tradition in Rockwall County.
The Posse is deeply rooted in community engagement. Members regularly participate in parades, local festivals, RISD varsity football games and neighborhood initiatives such as National Night Out, strengthening relationships between residents and those who serve them.
A cornerstone of the Posse’s community impact is its signature annual event, the Rockwall County Sherriff’s Posse Roundup, held each November in historic downtown Rockwall. This beloved event celebrates Western hertiage while raising funds for scholarships that benefit local students involved in agricultural programs such as 4-H and FFA. Through these scholarships, the Posse continues to invest in the next generation, supporting students as they pursue education and careers in agriculture-related fields.
As the organization celebrates this milestone anniversary, it is also looking toward the future and inviting new members to join its ranks. The Posse is currently seeking energetic, community-minded individuals who have a passion for horsemanship and service.
“It’s a great way for a person with a horse to give back to the community,” said Chris Knox, past commander of the Posse. “If you have a horse and love being horseback, there’s no reason not to join the Posse.”
Membership offers a unique opportunity to serve alongside local law enforcement, participate in meaningful community events, and contribute to a longstanding tradition of volunteerism and honoring our western heritage. Individuals interested in joining or learning more about membership requirements and the application process are encouraged to contact the Posse for additional information through the website www.rockwallposse.com.
As the Rockwall County Sheriff’s Posse reflects on 35 years of service, its members remain committed to upholding the values of community, safety, and Western heritage - continuing a legacy that has made a lasting impact across Rockwall County for decades.
