The Marine Corps League Distinguished Service Award is one of our highest expressions of appreciation that a detachment can give to members of the public. This award recognizes individuals whose dedication, courage, and selfless service go above and beyond the call of duty. It honors those who exemplify integrity, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to protecting and serving their communities.

On June 25, the Marine Corps League - Sgt John 'Jack' Hettchen, Jr. Detachment was honored to participate in the Greater Gaithersburg Chamber of Commerce Public Safety Awards.

It was our privilege to present the Marine Corps League Distinguished Service Award to the outstanding police officers and firefighters in recognition of their exceptional dedication, bravery, and service to our community.

Each recipient demonstrated the same core values that Marines hold dear—Honor, Courage, and Commitment. These first responders embody the true spirit of selfless service.

As each citation was read, we heard remarkable stories of courage, quick thinking, and extraordinary actions that went far beyond what was expected. These acts of bravery serve as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices our police officers and firefighters make every day to keep our families and communities safe.

To all of this year's honorees, thank you for your unwavering dedication, your courage under pressure, and your commitment to serving others. The Marine Corps League is proud to recognize your service and grateful for everything you do to make Montgomery County a safer place.
