Biden goes all in on voting by mail.

“Every American has a right to have their voice heard at the ballot box, and no American should be kept from voting early, voting by mail, or voting at all,” Harris said in a statement after Biden’s announcement. “Our democracy is strongest when everyone participates, and it is weaker when people are left out.”

Florida joins unwashed hordes to block VBM.
“You are making policies that are detrimental to our communities,” said an emotional state Rep. Angela Nixon (D), describing herself as “distraught and disheartened.”

The passage of the bill comes after both Democrats and Republicans, including Gov. Ron DeSantis, hailed Florida’s administration of the November 2020 election as a model for the nation.

✔For the People Act
The For the People Act, passed by the House of Representatives, is now going to the Senate. There, Republicans will try to kill it with the filibuster, which enables an entrenched minority to stop popular legislation by threatening to hold the floor talking so that the Senate cannot vote. If Republicans block this measure, the extraordinary state laws designed to guarantee that Democrats can never win another election will stay in effect, and America as a whole will look much like the Jim Crow South, with democracy replaced by a one-party state.
The filibuster rules must be amended to exclude it from civil rights and voting legislation, just as it is for judges and the supreme court.

Vote by mail has a chance to spread like never before.

Opposition to restrictive Republican voting laws — and support for a sweeping Democratic bill — fuels a movement like none in decades. But can it succeed?

Maryland has passed HB 1048 to make voting easier and more convenient by creating a permanent mail-in ballot list. Marylanders who want to vote by mail in all future elections will be able to opt into this list and then will automatically receive a mail-in ballot for every election. (The bill doesn't change the ability of a voter to get a mail-in ballot for only one election.) Elections during the pandemic have shown us that our existing mail-in voting process works and that voters should be able to choose the option that works best for them. More info soon.

Seventy-four percent of us want to see nonpartisan redistricting; 11% do not. Sixty-eight percent want to see 15 days of early voting; 19% do not. Sixty percent want same-day voter registration; 29% do not. Fifty-nine percent want automatic voter registration; 29% do not. Even with the Republican attacks on mail-in voting, fifty-eight percent of us want to be able to vote by mail; 35% do not.

Overall, more than 2.4 million Marylanders voted. Half of all ballots cast were mail-in ballots, with another third cast in person during early voting. Only 16 percent of votes were cast in person on Election Day. Clearly, mail-in ballots are a voting method that Marylanders want to use.
