Congratulations to Gini Sampson,
Warden of the IDOC Putnamville Correctional Facility

Gini is an alum of RCF who has risen through the ranks accomplishing great things along the way. As she continues her career, the greatest things are yet to come.

Gini has served in the Indiana Department of Correction for more than 25 years holding leadership roles as a casework manager, unit team manager and most recently as Deputy Warden at Branchville Correctional Facility. Her time as deputy warden allowed her to be engaged with both re-entry and operations of the facility where she strived for the safety and well-being of staff and rehabilitative programs for the population.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in corrections from the University of Indianapolis. She is a 2015 graduate of the agency’s Emerging and Experienced Leadership program and the agency’s Executive Leadership program.

Several offenders participated in a Re-entry Simulation at RCF this week. During the simulation, they faced typical scenarios they might encounter upon their release from incarceration, such as securing housing, finding employment, arranging transportation, accessing healthcare, purchasing groceries, managing childcare, budgeting, and dealing with various other everyday life events. Participants left with a deeper appreciation and understanding of the preparations necessary for success. RCF staff acted as community members, simulating the challenges the offenders would face.

Employee Appreciation Week provides a valuable opportunity to recognize correctional staff for their vital role in ensuring the safety of our Indiana communities. Among the most poignant moments of the week are the tributes to those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Their individual sacrifices will forever be remembered and honored by the IDOC.
At this year’s ceremony, Correctional Officer Christopher McKibben represented RCF, accompanied by RCF Deputy Warden of Operations, Buffie Pratt.

Rockville Correctional Facility celebrated Correctional Professionals Appreciation Week May 4th – 8th. Employees were able to participate in games throughout the week, enjoy meals that were grilled out by the leadership team, and were given treat bags as a small token of appreciation for the work each staff does throughout the year. Local businesses also stepped up to the plate and donated some wonderful items that were drawn at random for door prizes at the end of the week. Rockville Correctional Facility would like to thank the following local businesses for their support and generous donations:

Sandusky Repair, The Red Raccoon Lifestyle Boutique, Bloomfields, Meadow Lane Soap, Nothing Bundt Cakes of Terre Haute, Twisted Treats, Mario Bros. of Rockville, Azzip Pizza of Terre Haute, The Historical Ritz Theater, Gobbler’s K**b Sweets, Snacks & Knick-Knacks, The 1880 Mustard Seed, The Thirty-Six Saloon, Scentsy by Mary Insley, Covered Dogs, and Mecca Tavern.

Rockville Correctional Facility is blessed to have such great community support!

This message is from RCF's Captain Jerry Hayn who led the IDOC's Team to be named the Overall Champions of the 2026 International Mock Prison Riot competition in Moundsville, WV. We at RCF couldn't be prouder of Captain Hayn and this team!

Captain Hayne writes, "So proud of this crew! We’re coming back to Indiana as the Overall Champions of the 2026 International Mock Prison Riot!
Taking 1st place overall against teams all across America and several from other countries including Israel, Mexico, Costa Rica, Uruguay, etc. is a feeling I can’t quite describe. We’re bringing home a total of 4 awards, and none of it would have been possible without the leadership that backed our training every step of the way.
The work doesn't stop here. Time to get back to it and be even stronger for 2027. "Go hard or go home" "

As we conclude Employee Appreciation Week at RCF, it's time to shine a spotlight on the remarkable team that makes everything possible! Numerous staff members were acknowledged for reaching impressive years of service milestones, ranging from five to 30 years. Paul Slaven was honored as the Facility Employee of the Year. A beloved highlight each year is the multimedia presentation featuring music and photos that showcase notable events from the past year. Warden Milner, along with Deputy Wardens Gray and Pratt, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all facility staff, often struggling to hold back their deep appreciation for those who make RCF the exceptional organization it is.

Corrections is undoubtedly a challenging profession, yet it is a profession nonetheless. It demands personal fortitude, meticulous attention to detail, and a strong understanding of laws, regulations, and rules, along with the ability to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds. While it certainly isn't easy, this career offers a sense of pride. Setting a positive example for those navigating their rehabilitation journeys is both meaningful and rewarding.
