30+ years of protecting the prairie. 🌾

In 1994, National Park Trust acquired land in Kansas's Flint Hills that would go on to become Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve — the only park site protecting America's tallgrass prairie ecosystem.

That's what our mission is all about: protecting land before it's lost, so these places stay part of America's story for generations to come.

An all-women's crew from Buckley Space Force Base backpacked at Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, and came home with trail names to match the adventure.

Backpacks, and trails, and lakes — oh my! 🥾

In June 2026, National Park Trust funded a three-day backpacking trip for members of Buckley Space Force Base into the backcountry of Rocky Mountain National Park. The group climbed above 10,000 feet to camp near Lake Verna before a smaller crew pushed on another 6 miles to Fifth Lake, trading trail talk the whole way.

Moments like these — active-duty members, veterans, and spouses sharing miles and stories together — are exactly what our Military Family Programs are built to create.

Happy 62nd birthday, Land and Water Conservation Fund! 🎉

Signed into law on September 3, 1964, with strong bipartisan support, LWCF has helped protect national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, and local outdoor spaces across the country for over six decades.

Water slides, wildlife, and a whole lot of teamwork. ☀️

This summer, D.C. students and police officers hit the water park at Harpers Ferry, explored the playground and animal program at Watkins Nature Center, and embarked on many other adventures together!

It's all part of our partnership with Iron Star Foundation, made possible with support from the Diana Davis Spencer Foundation — using parks to build lasting connections between young people and the officers in their communities.
